Priorities the topic of Town Hall on Tuesday, Sept. 4
Faculty and staff are invited to participate in a Town Hall from 3-4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 4, in 305 RSC. Among those leading the Town Hall discussion on priorities will be Provost Rick Muma, Gery Markova, director of Faculty Advancement, and Kaye Monk-Morgan, assistant vice president for Academic Affairs.
A wine and cheese social will follow the Town Hall in 301 RSC.

Applications are being accepted through August 31, 2018 for the 2019 Online Faculty Fellows. The Online Faculty Fellows are ambassadors for online learning on the campus of WSU. Their purpose is to establish a culture of online education by helping their peers increase the quality and quantity of online courses offered at WSU.

Translating research for real-world decision-making
An interdisciplinary team of evaluation researchers, a graphic designer and web developers collaborated to use technology that makes statewide evaluation results more user-friendly.
Team members for the Center for Applied Research and Evaluation at the Community Engagement Institute created an innovative new report that engages readers, highlighting the achievements of Early Childhood Block Grant grantees funded by the Kansas Children's Cabinet and Trust Fund.
The KCCTF uses these data to understand the impact of early childhood programs throughout the state, and now the information is even more readily available to the state's citizens.

Archaeologist Don Blakeslee's research featured in LA Times
“Archaeologists explore a rural field in Kansas, and a lost city emerges” was the headline in a recent story in the Los Angeles Times, featuring the work of WSU archaeologist and anthropologist Don Blakeslee.
What he's found has spurred a rethinking of traditional views on the early settlement of the Midwest, while potentially filling a major gap in American history.
WSU Weekly Briefing to feature exciting partnership
An exciting partnership will be announced at the WSU Weekly Briefing at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 23, in the Marcus Welcome Center.
Zach Gearhart, director of governmental relations, will give the overall university update.
The briefing will be livestreamed and available later that day at WSU Weekly Briefing. There will be time for questions at the end of the briefing.

The web support site has handled 339 support tickets to date with an average time to completion at 4.1 hours.
There are still 8 open spaces in today Next Level training session 3-5 p.m. in Jabara Hall, Room 122. There are also come-and-go open lab sessions on the schedule for 3-5 p.m. Thursday and 9-11 a.m. Friday in Jabara Hall Room 122. CMS trainings and open labs are on the schedule through the end of September.

Tip of the Day: A word about Styles
The styles menu The Styles menu in the toolbar allows you to change the appearance of text without changing the underlying paragraph setting in the code. It's an important tool, as it allows us to style a series of <h2> headings for visual impact without breaking the accessibility of the site for those using screen readers. Styles have two important differences in application from Paragraph settings:
In addition to their main application in managing the display of paragraph headings, styles can be useful to highlight important prose without applying a Paragraph heading, which would create an accessibility problem. For instance -- the following text is in body copy (paragraph) with a style of Heading 6. Don't use paragraph headings for prose! Those are for headers only! |

All call for WSU Student of the Year judges
The WSU Student of the Year scholarship competition is a competitive and prestigious opportunity for students who have proven exemplary leadership, involvement and service to the WSU and Wichita communities. Applications and nominations are open for students who wish to participate.
We are calling for judges to serve throughout the selection process. We are looking for three different sets of judges, so upon indicating interest, please include which round you would be most interested in serving on as well as your second choice.
Round 1: Application Review – Completed by Tuesday, Oct. 2
- This process would be going through the qualified applicants and meeting to decide on which students move onto the next round. We have seen an increase, so we could be sifting through 60-70 applications depending on how many student apply.
Round 2: Interviews – Friday, Oct. 12
- Our judges' panel will sit through a series of interviews of those selected to move on through the application round. Deliberation and decision on the final court of eight students will follow the interviews.
Round 3: Presentations – Friday, Oct. 19
- This panel will serve as audience to our eight finalists as they present and showcase why they should win the title of WSU Student of the Year and scholarship. There will be two winners this year.
