Seeking First Year Research Experience (FYRE) faculty mentors

FYRE logo

The Cohen Honors College in partnership with the Department of Chemistry are excited to announce the launch of the First Year Research Experience (FYRE) pilot program. The mission of this first FYRE, FYRE in STEM, program, is to build a community of STEM students, faculty and professionals from various STEM backgrounds to support young STEM majors or potential majors as they form identities as members of the scientific community, thus improving the likelihood that they will persist to graduation.

To allow the FYRE in STEM program to be a success, we are looking for dedicated research mentors from across campus who can provide an appropriate short-term STEM research project in the spring 2019 semester. Questions may be directed to Heidi Bell at heidi.bell@wichita.edu or 978-3315.

If you know of a first-year undergraduate student who may be interested in applying to the FYRE in STEM program, please direct them to FYRE in STEM Student Application.

Faculty can apply at the link below.

WSU Foundation crowdfunding platform available to support your programs

Crowdfunding

Last spring, the WSU Foundation activated the WSU GiveCampus crowdfunding platform to provide the campus community with an opportunity to conduct project-specific fundraising campaigns. This social media platform can provide recognized WSU student groups, academic departments and programs with a helpful tool in securing funding for one-time projects such as the purchase of research equipment or materials, bringing a guest artist or speaker to campus or sending a student group or faculty member to represent WSU in a competition or to present an academic paper.

For information on how the WSU GiveCampus campaign platform can help you achieve your program fundraising goals, visit WSU Give. Or, contact Aaron Winter, director of development with the WSU Foundation, at 978-3803 or aaron.winter@wichita.edu.

Physical Plant to transition to Facilities Services

Facilities Services

WSU's Physical Plant is beginning the transition to a new name, Facilities Services.

Facilities Services more aptly describes what we do. A large support organization, we are focused on providing timely service and solutions for our campus community. Partnering with all members of campus community, we will continue to provide a wide range of services to help ensure all WSU facilities, landscape and hardscape are maintained, repaired and improved in a timely manner.

Changing our name to Facilities Services brings us in line with many universities across the country.

Our home and the buildings we work from will continue to be knowns at the Gaddis Physical Plant Complex.
