2019 Open Enrollment begins soon!
WSU Human Resources and the Total Rewards team remind benefits-eligible state employees that Open Enrollment will begin on Monday, Oct. 1, for State of Kansas Employee Medical Plan (SEHP) coverage effective Jan. 1. This is once again an active enrollment, meaning that all state employees must participate, or be enrolled in a default plan.
There are many options for state employees to learn about changes to SEHP coverage for the 2019 plan year. For a full listing of Open Enrollment events, including in-person presentations, online webinars, and lab sessions for assistance, please visit the Open Enrollment Website.
Grand opening to be held on Tuesday, Sept. 18, at WSU South
Wichita State University, WSU Tech and WSU Shocker Studios invite media to the grand opening of WSU South, 3805 E. Harry St., on Tuesday, Sept. 18. Remarks and ribbon cutting will begin at 4 p.m., followed by a reception and campus tours at 4:30 p.m.
Wichita State offers general education classes, most classes in the elementary education completion program, and psychology classes for psychology degree completion at WSU South. Most of the classes are in the late afternoon and early evenings for the convenience of students.
During the fall and spring semesters, fun, noncredit classes are available for anyone to attend.
Wichita State also partners with WSU Tech and Shocker Studios at WSU South to offer general education classes and technical programs and Media Arts BAA degrees. There's also a psychology research laboratory on human factors and virtual reality.
Students can train like a professional in the 35,000 square feet Shocker Studios production facility, and get the skills they need for a dream career in video game, film or recording industry.
WSU Tech programs found at WSU South include veterinary technician, police science, EMT, interior design, pre-health courses for nursing, surgical technician and dental assistant and general education courses, including the Shocker Pathway.
IEEE Eta Kappa Nu invites you to a Tech Talk by Brian McClendon, former VP at Google
Brian McClendon, former VP at Google, will present a Tech Talk at 1 p.m. tomorrow (Tuesday, Sept. 18) in 265 Rhatigan Student Center. He has presented to more than 8,000 Kansans in nearly 70 talks.
The frame for his STEM presentations is to give an overview of his journey as an entrepreneur, hardware-through-software; making-through-management; his startup businesses to corporate VP; and now back to KU as a research professor. The topics of focus include digital mapping, virtual reality, machine learning, entrepreneurship, innovation and the value of STEM / STEAM learning for all students.

This course is provided for leaders who supervise employees (UP, USS, students), and
will focus on the overall employment relationship. It will provide guidance on managing
performance, setting expectations, how to identify when an employee has not met expectations
and how to effectively address those concerns. This could include concerns with attendance,
job performance, conflict with coworkers, etc. This training will also introduce you
to tools to use to effectively document an unmet expectation. If you have questions,

Physical Therapy students seek volunteers for neck pain study
Do you have neck pain? See if you qualify for a free neck massage! We are conducting a research study to determine the effects of traditional massage vs traditional massage augmented by paraffin heat pack on neck pain. As part of this study, we will collect data about cervical strength, pain, range of motion and disability score based on the Neck Disability Index scale.
The study will take place at the WSU Old Town Center and participation will require about one hour of your time. We will then need you to return two to three days later to take final measurements, which will take approximately 20 minutes. Have an idea? E-Launch is for you
E-Launch has been developed to foster entrepreneurial activity that will lead to the commercialization of technology-based ideas. Starting Tuesday, Sept. 25 and Friday, Sept. 28, E-Launch sessions will be offered on Tuesdays from 6-9 p.m. and on Fridays from 1-4 p.m.
Through an interactive process, participants will learn to clearly conceptualize how the product or service can provide real value to customers. Participants will be shown how to validate their value proposition with customers and other stakeholders. In addition, the program will assist in the development of a business model that will deliver the value proposition to customers and provide a framework and methodology to create a viable startup company.

Next Safekeeping training session will be Wednesday, Sept. 19
The Accounts Receivable Department will offer its monthly Safekeeping training session to anyone who has questions about their Safekeeping account. The next session will be from 11 a.m.-noon Wednesday, Sept. 19, in 124 Jabara Hall.

Board of Trustees, Innovation Alliance Board to meet Friday, Sept. 21
The WSU Board of Trustees (BOT) and the Wichita State Innovation Alliance (WSIA) board meetings will be held on Friday, Sept. 21.
The BOT will meet at 8 a.m. and WSIA will meet at 11 a.m. in 164 Experiential Engineering Building. These meetings are open to the public.
Campus street and parking update near McKnight Art Center
A McKnight Art Center sloped window and tucking pointing project will begin today (Monday, Sept. 17). Snodgrass Construction is in need of a construction staging area located in parking lot 16S, north of McKnight Art Center, denoted in the image above.
The parking lot will have 20 parking stalls, which face south, blocked for construction staging now through Jan. 12. The four accessible stalls will not be affected.
In addition, one lane of traffic, the north lane next to McKnight, will be closed today (Monday, Sept. 17) through Friday, Sept. 21. This is so a lift can be placed in the traffic lane to reach the highest points of the building on the south side.
$7 T-shirts on Tuesday
The Shocker Store's first one-day-only sale of the school year is tomorrow (Tuesday, Sept. 18), where you'll find two T-shirts available for $7 each, while supplies last. Shocker Store opens at 8 a.m., and they will sell out, so hurry in that day! Limit three per customer. Sale is in-store only. The Shocker Support Locker seeks donations!
The Shocker Support Locker accepts donations of food, hygiene products, textbooks, professional clothing at any time.
Donors may bring items to the Student Government Association (SGA) office in 219 RSC. SGA is also available to pick up items from donors. If you would rather drop items off at the locker, contact SGA at sga.supportlocker@wichita.edu first so that we can meet you there to log the items.
Shocker Support Locker also accepts monetary donations. Money donated to the locker is used to improve the space, acquire new equipment and purchase food and hygiene items. To contribute, visit our Marketplace.
Students, faculty and staff are welcome at the Shocker Support Locker
The Shocker Support Locker was founded in 2015 by the WSU Student Government Association to relieve food insecurity among WSU community members. Today, the locker provides both nonperishable and fresh food items, as well as hygiene products, professional clothing and textbooks.
Individuals who would like to use the Shocker Support Locker must be currently enrolled at Wichita State as students or currently employed faculty or staff. If you fit this criterion, you are welcome to use the pantry once per week and may take up to 10 items per visit.

University Libraries is holding the workshop “Trademark Basics: Protect Your Business Name” from 5:30-7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 25 in 217 Ablah Library. Discover the difference between a trademark, service mark, and registered mark. Then, learn how to search for existing marks and logos and walk through the online trademark application process.
This workshop is the first in the Entrepreneurship Research Series this semester. The workshops in this series are open to the public.
