Classroom Technology training schedule – spring 2019
Classrooms across campus are equipped with uniform technology and media equipment. Access is available to faculty and staff with consistent keys for most classrooms that are issued during a short training session. We encourage you to bring your personal laptop to test in the room during training. If there are additional needs or questions, please call 978-3588.
Faculty are encouraged to verify that their assigned rooms have the technology they need prior to the start of the semester.

Space is available in Employment Relationship Training class on Friday, Jan. 11
Space is available in an Employment Relationship Training class from 9-11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 11, in 264 Rhatigan Student Center. To register for training, go to myTraining through myWSU.
This course is provided for leaders who supervise employees (UP, USS, students), and will focus on the overall employment relationship. It will provide guidance on managing performance, setting expectations, how to identify when an employee has not met expectations, and how to effectively address those concerns. This could include concerns with attendance, job performance, conflict with coworkers, etc. This training will also introduce you to tools to use to effectively document an unmet expectation. Wichita State expands Lifelong Learning Program
As part of the university’s commitment to lifelong learning, Wichita State is continuing to expand its popular Lifelong Learning Program for senior citizens.
This initiative is part of WSU’s continuing effort to make college classes accessible to seniors throughout the community. Lifelong Learning classes differ from other classes in that they are held at retirement communities and senior centers around the area. Residents and members of the community 60 years of age or older can audit these classes without paying tuition.
WSU has scholarship money available to cover workshop fees for students enrolling prior to Feb. 14. After that date some workshop fees may apply. Although geared toward the senior citizen population, anyone less than 60 can enroll in the classes if they pay regular tuition and fees.
“More than 500 senior citizens participated in one or more of the 14 courses offered in 2018. Due to the success of the program and overwhelming interest in these classes, we have increased the number of course offerings and added new locations “said Kimberly Moore, director of WSU’s Office for Workforce, Professional and Community Education (WPCE). “We value our seniors and are excited to continue to provide them with high-quality, engaging and meaningful educational opportunities.”
Faculty training opportunities
All instructional staff are invited to choose from several in-person training topics offered on Friday, Jan. 18, in the Marcus Welcome Center. Classes will be offered in formatting images (photographs, artwork, etc.) for your class, Panopto, Quality Matters, the Blackboard Grade Center, and running effective online discussions. There will also be an opportunity to take the required accessibility instruction for faculty so you don’t have to do it online.

IDA will also offer a special session of the Blackboard and Accessibility come-and-go lab time from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Marcus Welcome Center this day, and there is no need to sign up for the lab, so if you find you need some help getting your spring classes set up, please come join us there!
CCHT announces January events of focused awareness
Per Presidential Proclamation, January is National Human Trafficking Awareness Month. The WSU Center for Combating Human Trafficking (CCHT) invites you to join in on this month of focused awareness events that offers the opportunity to engage, educate, and inspire our community to combat abuse and exploitation. Located on the WSU campus, CCHT is a team of survivor-leaders and long-term multidisciplinary professionals who represent more than 140 years of combined personal, direct practice, advocacy and research expertise in the Runaway and Homeless Youth and Anti-Trafficking Movements. Together, they are committed to empowering the nation’s capacity to provide effective prevention, assessment, identification, intervention, restoration and aftercare / prosperity promoting responses to young people who are survivors of the streets.
As a not-for-profit functioning under the structure of WSU, CCHT is unique in that they work and provide training all over the country on their Lotus Anti-Trafficking ModelTM in addition to investing in the Wichita community by providing direct services and training opportunities locally.

College of Applied Studies celebrates a successful year
2018 was a busy and successful year for the College of Applied Studies! Highlights include:
- A college and department name change
- Enrollment increase for the second year in a row
- New degree programs and renovated spaces

Documenting academic-related activity
Professors, we need your help! According to federal regulations, whenever a student does not receive a passing grade in a course and is a federal aid recipient, the Office of Financial Aid must verify if the student participated in any academic-related activity. This can include attending class, giving a presentation, or completing an assignment, quiz, or test.
We need your assistance in letting our office know quickly after you receive an email from us. This will help us to determine, in a timely manner, if the students earned the federal aid or if we need to return those funds. Thank you in advance for your help! Graduate WSU Student of the Year
Do you know a graduate student that has shown exemplary leadership, involvement and service? The WSU Graduate Student of the Year Scholarship is awarded to one outstanding graduate student who exemplify these to both the WSU and Wichita communities.
Candidates must meet the following criteria: Must have at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA, Must be a graduate student currently enrolled in at least three credit hours at Wichita State.

First Pitch banquet slated for Feb. 1
The Wichita State University baseball program is scheduled to host its annual First
Pitch banquet on Friday, Feb. 1, in the Aetna Multi-Purpose Center at Charles Koch
Arena.
The dinner will begin at 6 p.m. and will feature former Wichita State head coach
Gene Stephenson as the guest speaker.
