Watch the latest episode of ‘In Focus’
Take a closer look at the Fairmount College of Liberal Arts and Sciences on the latest episode of “In Focus.” On this episode, we took a trip to Skeleton Acres where anthropology professor Peer Moore-Jansen and his students use forensic anthropology methods to study mock crime scenes, spoke with physics professor Nick Solomey about working with NASA to send a neutrino detector to the sun, and check out a popular first-year seminar where students get a taste of culture by sampling foods from other countries.
“In Focus” is a video series that features a different college within the university each episode, highlighting the amazing students, faculty, staff members and history of Wichita State University.

Space is available in Employment Relationship Training class tomorrow (Friday, Jan. 11)
Space is available in an Employment Relationship Training class from 9-11 a.m. tomorrow (Friday, Jan. 11) in 264 Rhatigan Student Center. To register for training, go to myTraining through myWSU.
This course is provided for leaders who supervise employees (UP, USS, students), and will focus on the overall employment relationship. It will provide guidance on managing performance, setting expectations, how to identify when an employee has not met expectations, and how to effectively address those concerns. This could include concerns with attendance, job performance, conflict with coworkers, etc. This training will also introduce you to tools to use to effectively document an unmet expectation. Classroom Technology training schedule – spring 2019
Classrooms across campus are equipped with uniform technology and media equipment. Access is available to faculty and staff with consistent keys for most classrooms that are issued during a short training session. We encourage you to bring your personal laptop to test in the room during training. If there are additional needs or questions, please call 978-3588.
Faculty are encouraged to verify that their assigned rooms have the technology they need prior to the start of the semester.

Wichita State University faculty members are invited to join us for an open house from 2-4 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16, in the Learning Commons on the first floor of Ablah Library, for a chance to learn more about our services, collections and facilities. ‘Introduction to Library Research’ will be offered again this spring
Academic advisors: University Libraries is offering LASI 170 Introduction to Library Research again this spring. This is a one credit 8-week course offered both F2F and online. Course objectives and other details about this class are available online.
Whether students have little experience doing library research or are experienced and want to learn more challenging search tricks, they will enjoy this class because many assignments are tailored to their personal experience. Students often say they wish they had taken this class as a freshman because it has such practical information.

New mandatory GTA workshop coming Thursday, Jan. 17
A mandatory new GTA student workshop, including lunch, will be offered from 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, in 233 RSC.
In addition to Graduate School training, the Office of Instructional Design & Access will provide beneficial training and teaching resources.

Teacher Appreciation event coming to Charles Koch Arena
The women’s basketball team will host the Houston Cougars at 1 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 20, in Charles Koch Arena. Admission is free for all teachers, professors, and faculty and staff with school ID.
Our goal is to support as many local teachers as possible by collecting school supplies throughout the game (hand sanitizer, Kleenex, crayons, glue, pencils, etc.)
General admission tickets are $4. There will be a free one-hour mini-camp for kids from K-8 following the game.
