The WSU Presidential Search Committee is gathering opinions to help shape the position description. Whatever your relationship to the university, the committee would like your opinions. Open forums will be held on June 6 during the below times in 142 RSC. All forums are open, so if you are unable to attend with your constituency group, please attend any of the sessions.

1-2 p.m.: Faculty Forum

2:15-3:15 p.m.: Staff Forum

3:30-4:30 p.m.: Student Forum

4:45-5:45 p.m.: Community Forum  

In addition, please share your feedback through a voluntary, anonymous online survey.

Position for First Year Seminar Faculty Coordinator

The Office of Academic Affairs is seeking a faculty member with a passion for supporting student success and creative curricular development to coordinate the First Year Seminar courses on campus. Applications are due through PeopleAdmin by Friday, June 14.

Responsibilities will include: encouraging and supporting new course development, mentoring faculty in best practices for first year engagement, attending general education meetings when FYS proposals are on the agenda, facilitating assessment of FYS, and tracking CCFs and stipend payments. The coordinator will work closely with the Associate Vice President of Strategic Enrollment Management and the Director of Student Success.  

Applicants must be tenure track or non-tenure track faculty who have had experience teaching first year seminar courses, and have at least five years of classroom experience. 


WSU Foundation end of fiscal year schedule

Requisitions

In order for the WSU Foundation to meet your deadline of making the deposit to reimburse WSU accounts on Monday, June 24, requisitions are due at 5 p.m. Wednesday, June 19. These checks will be released on Friday, June 21. Any check needs after June 21 are due at 5 p.m. Wednesday, June 26, for the check run Thursday, June 27.

The WSU Foundation does not encumber funds, and we cannot write any checks for fiscal year 2019 after Friday June 28.

Please deliver all gifts by Wednesday, July 3, to the WSU Foundation by 5 p.m. that day. Contact Amy Houpt at 978-5191 with any questions or concerns.


Wedge press conference today (Tuesday, June 4)

Eric Wedge press conference

Wichita State will hold an introductory press conference for new head baseball coach Eric Wedge at 6 p.m. today (Tuesday, June 4) in the Armstrong Room, Marcus Welcome Center. The public is invited to attend. 

Wedge was named the new head baseball coach on Wednesday, May 29. He was a catcher for the Shockers from 1987-89, and earned first team All-America honors in 1989. He is the 22nd head coach in the history of Shocker baseball, and has 15 years of coaching experience, including 10 years as a Major League manager.


Director of Disability Services Grady Landrum retirement party coming June 14

Grady Landrum retirement party June 14, 2019

After 27 years with Wichita State, Grady Landrum will retire from his position as director of Disability Services at the university.

Please join us in honoring Grady’s years of service, and in wishing him well in this new chapter. The party is scheduled from 3-5 p.m. Friday, June 14, in the Santa Fe Trail Room, 233 RSC. His last day at work will be Friday, June 28.

SolidWorks meeting coming June 13 at Experiential Engineering Building

South Central Kansas SolidWorks will host their Q2 User Group meeting for networking and sharing knowledge about SolidWorks computer-aided design. The meeting will take place at 5:45 p.m. Thursday, June 13, at the Experiential Engineering Building, and will include dinner catered by Hog Wild BBQ, two presentation sessions and a prize drawing. Volunteers needed for a research study

Researchers in the School of Nursing are looking for volunteers for a nutritional research study that will examine changes in iron absorption with antioxidant supplementation.

Participants will be asked to consume a meal with phytic acid, complete a dietary recall, participate in taste testing and have blood and saliva sample collection during a meal challenge. Participation is expected to last about 2.5 hours total.

Inclusion Criteria:

  • Female
  • Not pregnant or breastfeeding
  • 18-35  years old
  • More than 110 pounds

Register for the Engaging a Multigenerational Workforce Training coming June 13

Engaging a Multigenerational Workforce

This Diversity in Action interactive training will highlight the different generations and their workstyles, while providing a space for participants to learn more about their own work culture. Participants will learn the differences and similarities between the generations, while dispelling stereotypes and celebrating the importance of having a multigenerational workforce. Click on Diversity in Action Program for more information.

Pizza Hut Museum undergoing operational changes

Pizza Hut Museum

As the Pizza Hut Museum celebrates one year of sharing the story of the original Pizza Hut with visitors from across the nation, a few operational changes went into effect on June 3.

Hours of operation will change to 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

978-4488 will serve as the museum’s dedicated phone number.
