KMIC's Year 1 Mentor Training was a phenomenal experience. It allowed me to have access to numerous resources. The collaboration with other mentors was invaluable. I would not have been a successful mentor without this training.

I attended KMIC 4 years ago as a new administrator. I feel that KMIC provided leadership training that I had NEVER been introduced to before. It has changed the way that I coach staff and allows me to be a stronger instructional leader.

The KMIC program through Wichita State has positively impacted me as a mentor. It made me become a stronger more confident mentor…From the different strategies and tools to the discussions between other educators in the surrounding districts, the KMIC program covers the expectations mentors face with their first-year mentees. Through the program, you witness and perform different scenarios that prepare you for what could happen during the school year. I have used all of the materials and pass along great tips I learned from the program to my fellow teachers. It has benefited me as a teacher now, as well as the teachers I mentor. I am very grateful for being a part of this program.

KMIC has allowed us to have a district-wide mentoring program that is effective and beneficial to the mentor and mentee. The program helped in developing my relationship with my mentees. KMIC is very intentional and structured. Learning how to give effective feedback and utilize resources has enhanced each meeting or session with the new teacher. The ongoing professional learning in year two took the knowledge and best practices to the next level. It elevated the conversations and helped us focus on the social and emotional needs our students may be experiencing. We were also able to provide some trauma informed strategies for our mentees and guide them through those difficult conversations that are happening in many schools across Kansas. I would recommend KMIC for any district; I personally believe it has helped with teacher retention in our district because the mentor feels prepared and the mentees have felt supported.

As a young teacher, the KMIC program has pushed me into becoming the teacher I am today. Not only did I have a phenomenal mentor, but the program is individually based to what I feel I needed or wanted to improve on. Having a mentor who is not my direct supervisor allows mentees to have an open dialogue and feel comfortable venting through the tough times as new teacher. Yes, I would be a good teacher had I not gone through the KMIC mentoring program, but because I have, I truly believe I am a great teacher.

The KMIC mentor program has not only trained me to support new educators and their students but has had a major impact on my teaching practice. I have become a more reflective and collaborative teacher. I learned strategies that I was able to immediately implement in my own classroom. This training was the best professional development I have ever had!
