Students studying economics learn how to interperate and analyze how individuals and groups make decisions and interact. Economics majors explore a variety of topics including resource allocation, incentives and wealth across a wide variety of areas including business, law and public affairs. In addition to core business courses, the Department of Economics at Wichita State offers courses work in three areas of study:

  • macroeconomic theory
  • microeconomic theory

About the Economics Program

You will study three main areas of economics—macro, micro and statistics—in addition to core business courses. The BBA in economics degree also offers a real-estate emphasis (the only one found at a Kansas regents' university) for students interested in broader conceptual and policy issues associated with real estate and land use.

Curriculum and Coursework

View the curriculum. Candidates for the Bachelor of Business Administration degree must satisfy the Barton School of Business requirements. Candidates must satisfy the additional requirements:

  1. Complete WSU foundation, general education and any additional university graduation requirements.
  2. Complete advanced standing requirements.
  3. Complete business core requirements for the Bachelor of Business Administration degree.
  4. Complete at least 50 percent of the total upper-division business credit hours at Wichita State University.
  5. Achieve a grade point average of 2.250 or better on
    1. All college work,
    2. All work taken at Wichita State, and
    3. All business core and current major(s) courses taken at Wichita State.
  6. Submit an application for degree through the myWSU portal before the deadline: October 1 for fall graduates, March 1 for spring and summer graduates. See — Business Advising Center website.
  7. Complete the Barton School exit survey (in the final semester at WSU).
