Academic Advising Process for Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering Department

New students and transfer students:

  • New students to WSU and/or the Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering (IME) Department are strongly encouraged to meet with the IME Department Chair, to discuss the program and the student's interests related to the program.
  • All new students to WSU/IME, are required to meet with their academic advisor for initial enrollment into courses. During this appointment, information regarding the program, the university, tutoring, and student life will also be covered.
    • Students with AP, IB, CLEP, DANTES scores should bring copies of their results to this meeting, along with a copy of their final high school transcript if it has not already been submitted to the Registrar's Office.
    • To request an advising appointment, new students should email three preferred appointment times to IMEadvising@wichita.edu

Continuing students:

  • A-K last names will meet with their IME faculty advisor each Fall Semester and then their academic advisor (must be completed prior to registering for Spring courses).
    • Email faculty advisor to request appointment.
  • L-Z last names will meet with their IME faculty advisor each Spring Semester and then their academic advisor (must be completed prior to registering for Summer/Fall courses).
    • Email faculty advisor to request appointment.
  • Each semester, students will meet with the academic advisor to enroll in courses.
  • Students may be excused from meeting with the academic advisor (only in the semester they are required to meet with their IME faculty advisor) if:
    • Cumulative GPA is at least a 2.5
    • No academic related holds on their student account (48 hour hold, missing transcripts, Freshmen Hold, Orientation hold, etc.).
    • Student has completed two full (Fall and Spring) semesters of courses as a IME major.
    • Student does not require any paperwork be completed (Workforce, VA, Athletics, Study Abroad, etc).
  • If a student is excused/anticipates being excused from meeting with the academic advisor (in the semester they have the required faculty advising), the faculty advisor must submit the recommended courses (notated in the student's folder) for the following semester after meeting with the student. Students will be e-mailed when they have been cleared to enroll and the courses they are expected to take (noted in the student's degree audit and confirmation sent to IMEadvising@wichita.edu).
  • The academic advisor reserves the right to request an advising appointment with any students who meet the above criteria, where there is a concern regarding student's academic success (sudden decrease in academic performance, concerns expressed from their course instructor, excess course withdraws, history of enrolling in non-advised courses, etc.).
    • Continuing ISME students can schedule appintments with their department's academic advisor (Click here to schedule).
