2019 Table Runner

Shocker MINDSTORMS Challenge

Over The Edge

Apprentice Mission (  Beginner and Beginner II Teams)

Description:

Can you use touch sensors to help your robot feel the edge of the table without falling off? The field is simply a standard folding table approximately 6 ft by 2.5 ft. divided into 8 equal sections with four 1.75 in. blocks located in the outer corners. Your robot will start in the center of the table. The robot (including wires) must not be larger than 12 inches in any direction.

Your robot will need to be in motion while remaining on the table during the entire run. You need to push the four blocks off the sides of the table onto the floor and touch the four sides of the table. The robot itself must be able to sense the edge of the table and change direction. You cannot touch more than one block at a time. While you can push the blocks off in any order and on any side, in order to score maximum points you must only push one block per side.

The purpose of this Apprentice Mission is to utilize the touch or force sensor capability of the robot. You must therefore show satisfactory evidence to the course Judge that the unit is utilizing a touch or force sensor to direct its motion and change of direction when reaching the edge of the table.

Bill of Materials:

· 6’ x 2.5’ folding table (or similar size)

· ¾” Black electrical tape

· 1.75” wooden cubes (x4)

(Tip: Put the table on the floor without unfolding the table legs. Your robot will still have an edge to feel, but if it falls off the edge, it will be a much shorter distance to the ground.
