Majoring / Minoring in Spanish

At least 120 hours are required for graduation. Students also must earn a 2.0 overall GPA, a 2.0 WSU GPA, and a 3.0 GPA in the major, and complete all courses required for Liberal Arts and Sciences General Education. Starting with enrollment for spring 2015, anyone with previous instruction in Spanish must take the placement exam in order to enroll in SPAN 111, 112, 210, 220, 321, and 325.

The placement exam is offered at no cost to students and can be taken at any time from any computer that has internet access.

Students who have never taken a Spanish course can present high school transcripts in the MCLL office (JH 305) to obtain a prerequisite override for SPAN 111.

Please consult with the MCLL office at (316) 978-3180 for additional information.

Requirements are different for native speakers (i.e. attended high school in a Spanish-speaking country). They should obtain the native speaker checklist and consult an MCLL advisor prior to enrollment.

All non-native students and students classified by MCLL as heritage speakers (i.e. native speakers who have not attended high school in a Spanish-speaking country) should follow the checklist below.
