Undergraduates who are studying art history, cultural anthropology, communication studies, English language and literature, history, linguistics, modern and classical languages and literatures, musicology, philosophy, religion, theatre, and qualitative sociology are eligible. Students in interdisciplinary field majors with an emphasis in one of these areas, including the minor in women’s, ethnicity and intersectional studies, are also eligible.

Preference may be given to certain fields depending on the needs of the employer.

How does the program benefit humanities majors?

Internships are excellent opportunities for you to hone crucial, durable skills, and to enhance your employment edge by showing related work experience.

Are these paid internships?

Yes. These internships pay $15/hour for 10 or more hours a week.

Can I participate more than one semester?

Yes. You can have a gap between semesters, or pursue a different placement for another semester. Continuous placement is at the discretion of the employer.

Can I get internship course credit?  Do I have to sign up for internship credit?

Internship course credit is required for all participants, but you can enroll in LAS 481 for 0-3 credits depending on your program needs. The 0-credit class is free and the others will follow the regular credit hour fee schedule.

How many hours do I work weekly?

Fall and spring interships will be 10-15 hours/week for 15 weeks. Summer internships will be 10-15 hours/week for 10 weeks.

Do I need to be a U.S. citizen?

No. However, you need to follow all policies or laws that relate to you as a non-citizen. Positions are open to F1 visa holders. You will be an employee of Wichita State University.

How do I apply?

Internships will be added as they are developed, so be sure to check Shocker Central regularly.
