NMR Rules and Expectations

Introduction

The nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) facility in McKinley Hall 115 currently houses 400 MHz
Varian Inova and 500 MHz Bruker Avance instruments. These instruments are available to use
by any researcher or student who has received formal training from Dustin Nevonen
(dustin.nevonen@wichita.edu).

Rules

  1. You must receive training from Dustin Nevonen before you are allowed to use the NMR
    instruments.
  2. Any experiments requiring more than one hour of runtime must be performed outside
of normal business hours between 5pm-9am.
  3. You must only use Wilmad 507pp or better quality NMR tubes. Tubes of poorer quality
are not allowed and may result in probe damage or instrument downtime.
  4. Ensure that the outside of the NMR tube is clean before inserting it into a spinner.
  5. No eating or drinking in the NMR facility.
  6. Please do not leave garbage (such as spent KimWipes) on the workstation desk.
  7. Do not enter the NMR facility wearing lab gloves.

Reserving NMR Time

Since the 500 MHz Bruker Avance is equipped with an autosampler, reserving runtime isn’t
required; however, using the 400 MHz Varian Inova will require a reservation, which can be
accessed through “Faces.”

The NMR schedule on Faces can be accessed via https://faces.ccrc.uga.edu/ using the group
name WSU_NMR. Contact Dustin Nevonen for a username and password. In order to access this
NMR scheduling system, you will need a WSU email address.
