Photo of Carlos MalacheCarlos Malache, an Integrated Marketing Communication major, kind of fell into his field. He was looking to change his major, and his advisor suggested communication. “I really like the program because it suits my strong skills,” Malache said.

Now in his junior year, he’s had the chance to thoroughly experience life as a communication student. His favorite class was Intro to Integrated Marketing Communication, where the strong advertising perspective gave him a clearer view of potential career options. In this class, he created his first advertisement for a Subaru BRZ. “I really enjoyed making it because I’m a creative person,” Malache explained. “It’s really fun to be able to use that academically.”

He works at Rainbows United Inc., a non-profit organization that helps special needs children in the area. He realized that he uses simple skills like public speaking much more than he ever imagined he would. “My supervisors sometimes come to me with questions because they know that I will always have an answer or an idea organized in my head,” said Malache.

Like many of his fellow students, Malache thinks the best part of the ESC is the people. “I know I’m at home because I always get along with communication majors,” he said. “We’re a special type of people.”

Malache had a hard time thinking of a favorite memory in class. He just explained how unlike many teachers, the ESC faculty doesn't try to just drill necessary information into its students. “All of my teachers are awesome,” bragged Malache.
