Hands-on learning...
In addition to students working in cooperative education and internships, students in the Elliott School of Communication have opportunities to gain serious hands-on experience as part of their class work. ESC faculty work to create project-based learning experiences in which students put theory and strategy into practice. Students gain skills and confidence through these projects, which aim at engaging students with the community. Check out these examples:

Communication Week (Comm Week) is an annual event that brings industry leaders to campus. Elliott School students have the opportunity to learn from and network with professionals in their field of study. While the 3-day event is hosted in person, Elliott School students in the Comm 304: Studio Video Production class also live stream all of the sessions. The live stream set-up includes multiple cameras, microphones, graphics and a live-switching software program. Students spend the weeks leading up to Comm Week learning live streaming skills and best practices. Then, under the instruction of a faculty member, students produce and direct each livestream session throughout Comm Week. The Elliott School’s Comm 304: Studio Video Production class has created a unique partnership within the local music scene. Each fall semester the class produces music videos for local musicians and performers. The artists are always WSU students, faculty/staff or alums. It’s an opportunity to create new content and portfolio pieces, as well as an opportunity to work with real clients in the Wichita area.
