CALL FOR STUDENT PAPERS
The Kansas Association of Historians announces competition for the best scholarly
papers in the
field of History written by college and university students between August 2014 and
January 2016.
The $125 awards are offered for the best papers in one graduate and two undergraduate
categories.
A $50 travel stipend to attend and present at the annual meeting will be provided
to the winning
presenters. The meeting registration fee will also be waived for winning presenters.
In addition, the
graduate winner will receive a one year’s subscription to Kansas History: A Journal
of the Central
Plains. Papers should not exceed 30 double-spaced pages, and should be roughly 7000
to 9000
words in length. The two undergraduate categories are:
Category I
Papers produced in seminars or other similar semester-long courses in which
production of a paper is the principal object. An award will be given to one
graduate paper and one undergraduate paper.
Category II
Papers produced as one of several important activities that constitute a course.
This award will be given to one undergraduate paper.
The committee reserves the right not to make an award in any category if no worthy
paper is
submitted.
The winning papers will be presented at the 2016 annual meeting of the KAH at Baker
University,
Baldwin, Kansas, April 22-23.
The student’s paper must be submitted electronically in Microsoft Word format, with
the student’s
name only on the cover page. Papers must be submitted by professors with a cover
letter of
recommendation to:

For undergraduate papers, the cover letter must clearly indicate the category entered.
Papers will be distributed to the awards committee. To be considered, papers must
be received by
February 15, 2016.
