Certificate Program
Overview
PROGRAM OBJECTIVES:
The Medieval and Renaissance Studies Certificate Program at Wichita State University allows students to explore the diversity of European culture and receive credit for doing so. Interdisciplinary in nature, the program draws from WSU's course offerings in Art History, English Literature, History, Languages, Musicology, and Political Science, promoting a broad-based understanding of the Middle Ages and Renaissance.
The program offers undergraduate students the advantages of linked courses and in-depth study of a field, thus improving their prospects for graduate study. Graduate students are offered an opportunity to build from possible previously taken courses in order to complete the program and include it among their academic achievements.
CURRICULUM:
This 18-credit hour undergraduate certificate may be earned by any undergraduate or graduate student. Students must take coursework from at least three departments, including history, literature, language, and another discipline. All grades for the certificate must be C or better. Students must take at least one course in a medieval language. The certificate may be combined with a major (e.g., English, History) or taken as an elective interest. Classes transferred from other universities may apply toward the certificate with the approval of the coordinating committee. The certificate will be recorded on the students' transcript. Students should be advised by a member of the coordinating committee.
YOU MAY ALREDY HAVE THE CERTIFICATE:
Because of the interdisciplinary nature of this program, it is likely that some students have already taken many of the certificate's required courses and may be only a few credits away from completing the certificate.
