Providing art educators with the opportunity to explore new art mediums and techniques is what Visual Arts Demo Days is all about.

Taught by industry professionals and art and design faculty, these workshops were created by art educators, for art eduators.

 

2024 Workshops:    

Catching Up with Contemporary Art History with Dr. Brittany Lockard: Learn about a diverse group of contemporary artists working in a wide variety of media, and then workshop ideas for incorporating them into your classroom! Location: McKnight Art Center, Room 210. Dr. Brittany Lockard is an Associate Professor of Art History at the School of Art, Design and Creative Industries.

Collage/Inkjet Photo Transfer with Kendra Cremin: Participants will explore collage with a technique to transfer a photograph or graphic, printed with an inkjet printer onto other surfaces. Location: McKnight Art Center, Room 113. Limit: 12 participants. Kendra Cremin is an Adjunct Instructor at the School of Art, Design and Creative Industries.

Eco Printing and the Honorable Harvest with Dr. Lori Santos: Learn ways to engage in respect and reciprocity with the environment. Create an eco-print with natural pigments and make a nature journaling zine. Location: McKnight Art Center North, Room 118. Limit: 12 participants. Dr. Lori Santos is the Associate Professor of Art Education at the School of Art, Design & Creative Industries.

Figure Drawing - Live Model with Adelia Wise: Join us for a life drawing lesson focusing on mark making techniques and blocking the form. We will use charcoal and charcoal accessories on newsprint paper, drawing from observation from our live model. Location: McKnight Art Center, Room 213. Limit: 16 participants. Adelia Wise is an Adjunct Instructor at the School of Art, Design and Creative Industries.

Image Transfers on Clay Forms with Megan Messer: During this workshop, participants will learn how to use underglazes to create image transfers on newspaper and then onto various clay forms. Location: Henrion Hall, Room 106. Limit: 12 participants. Megan Messer is an MFA Ceramics Candidate at the School of Art, Design and Creative Industries.

Lumen Printing with Jennifer Ray: Learn the simple process of printing on silver gelatin photo paper without a darkroom. Participants will then learn how to fix and wash the prints, and scan and alter them digitally. Participants are encouraged to bring large photo negatives or small objects. Bring a flash drive for digital files if desired. In case of clouds/rain: darkroom photograms. Location: McKnight Art Center, Rooms 107/108. Limit: 12 participants. Jennifer Ray is the Associate Professor of Photo Media and Associate Director at the School of Art, Design and Creative Industries.

Making and Working with Paper Clay with Megan Messer: During this workshop, participants will learn how they can create paper clay from their current clay bodies. Walking through the steps of what tools they will need, how to formulate the paper clay, and creating delicate forms. Location: Henrion Hall, Room 106. Limit: 12 participants. Megan Messer is an MFA Ceramics Candidate at the School of Art, Design and Creative Industries.

Monotype/Monoprint and Paper Lithography with Marco Hernandez: Workshop participants will be introduced to the Monotype/Monoprint and Paper Lithography printmaking processes to create original prints. Location: McKnight Art Center, Room 221. Limit: 12 participants. Marco Hernandez is the Foundations Coordinator and Assistant Professor of Print Media at the School of Art, Design and Creative Industries.

Paper Making with Brookelle Peterson: Learn the basics of making with paper. Participants will learn how to make paper pulp and manipulate paper pulp utilizing color, texture, and basic molds. Easily accessible materials and tools will be used in this workshop. Location: Henrion Hall (West Gym), Room 111. Limit: 12 participants. Brookelle Peterson is an MFA Sculpture Candidate at the School of Art, Design and Creative Industries.

Plaster Carving with Brookelle Peterson: Participants will Explore subtractive sculpture through small scale plaster carving. We will utilize chisels and loop tools. Location: Henrion Hall, Room 150. Limit: 12 participants. Brookelle Peterson is an MFA Sculpture Candidate at the School of Art, Design and Creative Industries.

Transfers and Alternative Materials in Drawing with Robert Bubp: Create transfers without presses and other interesting effects on paper using acrylic medium and found materials. Location: McKnight Art Center, Room 214. Limit: 12 participants. Robert Bubp is the Graduate Coordinator and Professor of Painting and Drawing at the School of Art, Design and Creative Industries.
