What are the campus improvements proposed for the CHP?

A New State of the Art Space for the Dental Hygiene Program
A new location for the dental hygiene program – within an expanded School of Oral Health facility-at 29th and Oliver. A CHP student workgroup is being formed to provide input on how the existing plans created in 2013-2014 should be updated to meet current dental hygiene program requirements.

A New Health Professions Student Success Center
Renovation of the space currently used by the dental hygiene clinic in Ahlberg Hall to create a new Health Professions Student Success Center. A CHP student workgroup is being formed to provide input on the design and layout of the New Success Center and build on previous input from students on improving the student experience in the CHP. Beginning ideas focus on creating a “one stop” location in Ahlberg Hall to provide support, advice, enrichment, opportunity, and environment to help students meet their academic and professional goals. To date, ideas of what could be located in the CHP Success Center include:

  • Advisors
  • Success coach
  • Relocation of instructional services support from first floor (student computers, printers, etc.)
  • Accessibility services
  • Private room – nursing mothers
  • Private rooms (shared and reserved) – small student workgroups/study groups
  • Private Rooms (shared and reserved) to accommodate in Ahlberg Hall meetings with students and disability services, career development, tutors, etc.
Why are there improvements being proposed for the CHP?

The College of Health Professions is as a primary supplier of a ready workforce in a variety of health care disciplines in Kansas and beyond. When you support the Shock the Future campaign you will help the college continue to lead in providing highly qualified dental hygienists while ensuring that Health Professions student success services are student centered and innovation driven.
