Cohen Honors Alumni Mentoring Program (CHAMP)
The Honors College Student Council and the Honors Alumni Advisory Board are proud
to present the spring 2018 pilot for the Cohen Honors Alumni Mentoring Program (CHAMP).
We are accepting student applications to the program now!
In order to begin your application to the program, please fill out the CHAMP Google survey. The CHAMP Committee will review your survey and offer you further instructions for
matching with a mentor
CHAMP Aims To:
- Provide a facilitating structure for the communication among alumni and students in the Honors College of Wichita State University
- Allow for flexibility of schedule and purpose for a broad range of Honors students
- Provide a safe holding space for mentoring through the screening of mentors and consistent communication among committee members, students, and alumni
- Students will be able to better articulate long-term personal goals involving career, academics, and/or personal life, and create short-term action steps which work towards those goals
- Alumni will be able to effectively ask questions, provide advice, and offer resources for students, with the possibility of learning from students and having presence at Wichita State University
How CHAMP Works:
- In order for students to join the program, they must submit a student survey to the CHAMP committee through our Google Form or a paper document.
- In order for alumni to join the program as mentors, they must submit an alumni survey through the appropriate Google Form, and become members of the CHAMP LinkedIn group.
- Students who submit surveys will be directed to select three mentor choices based on the LinkedIn profiles in the CHAMP group and report them back in their order of preference.
- The CHAMP committee will review matching surveys and student choices to make a final decision on matches, based on mentor availability and preferences.
- CHAMP will provide students and mentors with program parameters, facilitate communication of purpose, outcomes, and duration, and assist with setting up initial contact.
- After each contact, students and mentors will be required to submit a brief survey following up on meeting quality and fulfillment.
- After final contact, students and mentors will be debriefed with direct communication and a series of focused questions about the mentoring experience.
