Message from the Honors Student Council
Fellow Honors Students,
The Honors Student Council meets every Thursday at 5 p.m. in the Honors College. Council meetings are open to the public and we encourage students to attend if they are interested in council initiatives or participation. We are also open to hearing student concerns and priorities concerning the Honors College student experience.
Currently the Council is discussing the value of community engagement and service within the Honors College and deliberating on how the Council can best encourage these values in the honors student body.
Diversity discussions from last year's Council have carried over into this year's conversation. The whiteboard in the Honors College is currently a public forum for Honors students to voice their opinions on proposed adjustments to College policy intended to increase diversity within the College. We depend on your input to advocate responsibly in the best interest of the Honors student body, so please contribute to the whiteboard discussion.

Ulrich Museum of Art Hosting Interdisciplinary FUN Faculty Research Series Sept. 27
The Ulrich Museum of Art on the Wichita State University campus invites you to join them from 4-5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 27, for the first installment of the FUN series for the new academic year.
FUN is a PechaKucha style presentation of campus-wide research on three Fridays featuring
four presentations which are seven minutes each. This program is an extension of the
museum's "Solving for X" series designed to share research conducted on campus with
the community. The event is free and open to the public. A reception will follow the
presentations.
The four presenters for Sept. 27 are:
-Neal Allen, associate professor and Department Chair of Political Science, whose
talk is titled "The Transactional Politics of Public Art: White Supremacy Never Dies."
-Nils Hakansson, associate professor of Biomedical Engineering, whose presentation
is titled "Biomechanics: Quantifying the Art of Movement."
-Ehsan Salari, assistant professor of Industrial & Manufacturing Engineering,
whose presentation is titled "Optimizing Radiation Therapy for Cancer Patients."
-Aleksander Sternfeld-Dunn, director, School of Music, associate professor of
Music Composition, Technology, whose presentation is titled "The Art of Failure."
FYRE Application due Oct. 1
FYRE is an applied learning program designed to connect first-year students with authentic hands-on research experiences in a variety of STEM-related disciplines. Students selected for the FYRE program enroll in an introductory research seminar course that exposes them to research methods and are matched with research positions in WSU labs actively involved in scholarly STEM research. FYRE students will be better prepared for advanced careers in STEM fields and will develop important skills in critical thinking and problem-solving that can be applied to careers outside of research.
