Wichita State University students who are enrolled and remain enrolled in the same
degree program prior to July 1, 2026 may continue to borrow a Federal Direct Loans
under legacy provisions.
Parents of dependent Wichita State University students who are enrolled and remain
enrolled in the same degree program prior to July 1, 2026 may continue to a borrow
Federal Direct Parent PLUS Loan under legacy provisions.
Students who withdraw from a term or begin a new program on or after July 1, 2026
will be subject to new loan regulations.
Legacy Provision for WSU Parent PLUS Borrowers
Parents of dependent students who have borrowed a Federal Direct Loan prior to July
1, 2026 will be able to continue borrowing under legacy provisions until the earlier
of:
Dependent student’s completion of their degree program, or
Three academic years.
Parents who fall under legacy provisions may continue to apply for the Parent PLUS
Loan at studentaid.gov. Eligibility is determined through a credit review. Parents can borrow any amount
needed (up to the cost of attendance minus other financial aid or resources) for each
dependent student enrolled. The Direct Parent PLUS Loan is taken out in the parent’s
name, and the parent is solely responsible for repayment.
Legacy Provision for WSU Graduate PLUS Borrowers
Federal Direct Graduate PLUS Loans will no longer be available to new borrowers starting
July 1, 2026.
Graduate students who have borrowed a Federal Direct Loan prior to July 1, 2026 may
continue to borrow the Graduate PLUS Loan under legacy provisions until the earlier
of:
The end of their academic program, or
Three academic years.
Students who fall under legacy provisions may continue to apply for the Graduate PLUS
Loan at studentaid.gov.
This loan is a low-cost, low-interest-rate loan. Your eligibility for a Graduate PLUS
Loan is not based on financial need.
You can use a Graduate PLUS Loan as a supplement to a Federal Direct Unsubsidized
Loan or as the sole loan to cover the cost of your education. You can borrow up to
your financial aid cost of attendance minus any other form of financial aid or resource.
You must have previously borrowed a Federal Direct Loan prior to June 30, 2026 in
your current degree program.
You must be admitted in full-standing as a degree-bound graduate student
You must enroll at least half-time in graduate-level coursework (5 credit hours during
each fall and spring and 3 hours for the summer term).
You must be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident of the U.S., or permanent resident
of an eligible trust territory.
You must not be in default on any student loans and must not owe a refund on any Title
IV Program, such as a Pell Grant, FSEOG, Federal Perkins Loan, Federal Work Study,
Federal Subsidized Direct Loan, Federal Unsubsidized Direct Loan, Federal PLUS Loan
or Consolidation Loan.
Legacy Provision for Graduate Unsubsidized Loan Information
Graduate students who have borrowed a Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan prior to July
1, 2026 may continue to borrow under legacy provisions for the remainder of their
program or three years, whichever comes first.
Graduate students may not borrow more than $138,000 in undergraduate and graduate
loans combined.
