Taken together, the university Mission, the Kansas Board of Regents Foresight 2020 Strategy and our own Accountability Planning Matrix represent our commitment to the constituencies we serve and constitute a valuable framework for preparing for WSU’s future.

The linked pages below provide an overview of the process, tools and perspectives we rely on for decision-making as the university addresses the consequences of recession and plans for the future.

The Mission of Wichita State University is to prepare students in business, education, engineering, fine arts, health professions and liberal arts and science; to provide research to advance those fields; and, to share the university’s expertise in the local community and beyond.

The university’s programs are aligned with the needs of the local marketplace, with the Foresight 2020 Strategy of the Kansas Board of Regents and with our broader duties to expand human knowledge and quality of life.

In our decisions, actions and allocation of resources, we draw strength from and are accountable to our students, faculty, staff, alumni and the people of Wichita, Sedgwick County and Kansas.

Accountability Planning Matrix
For 11 years, we have utilized an Accountability Planning Matrix, to ensure that our plans and performance are aligned with our values and the constituencies we serve. The matrix helps us structure and evaluate each of our major programs. » More on the matrix

Securing the future with Foresight 2020

Renewing our role and mission
Since gaining admission into the state system of higher education in 1964, Wichita State has had a distinct role as the only Kansas research university in an urban setting. We want to be judged in the context of the type of university we are, in the area we serve. » More on role and mission
