Forward Together: President's September 2024 Message

As we move deeper into the fall semester, I want to share a milestone that speaks to the heart of Wichita State’s mission: the opening of the Shocker Success Center. 

What was once Clinton Hall — a space many of us remember as outdated and cold — has been transformed into a vibrant and welcoming hub that now serves as the cornerstone of student support at Wichita State. Officially opened in August, the Shocker Success Center brings together 18 essential student services, creating a central place where our Shockers can find the help they need to stay on course and thrive. 

This center reflects our commitment to making education accessible and affordable. It supports students from every walk of life, whether they’re first-generation college students navigating unfamiliar territory, adult learners balancing multiple responsibilities, or students who simply need a helping hand on their academic journey. We know the challenges our students face, and we’ve worked hard to eliminate as many barriers as possible by centralizing these services. From academic guidance and tutoring to career support and basic needs assistance, everything they need is now in one place, in the very heart of our campus. 

This project has been a personal priority of mine for years because I believe so deeply in creating an environment where all students have the support they need to succeed. The Shocker Success Center is a powerful testament to that belief, and I know it will play a transformative role in the lives of countless students, helping them reach their goals and build a better future. 

I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to everyone who helped make this vision a reality. From the dedicated faculty and staff who worked tirelessly on this project, to the generous donors who saw its potential and chose to invest in the future of our students — this success is a direct result of your unwavering support. Together, we are making Wichita State a place where every student has the resources and opportunities they need to thrive. 

I encourage you to visit the Shocker Success Center and see for yourself the profound impact it is already having. It is a beacon of our commitment to student success, access and affordability, right in the heart of our campus.
