Post-Completion Optional Practical Training (OPT) Tutorial
Welcome!
In spring 2023, International Student Services (ISS) transitioned away from in-person OPT filing appointments. We welcome any questions you may have about OPT eligibility and the application process, however, we ask that you read the tutorial before forwarding us your inquiry. Open advising is available by phone or in person every Mon - Wed - Fri from 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm (316-978-3232 option 2). You may also send your questions to iss@wichita.edu.
This tutorial will guide you through the process of obtaining an OPT I-20 and filing your OPT application with USCIS via an online account. USCIS still accepts paper filings and information about completing a paper Form I-765 can be found later in the tutorial.
The purpose of this tutorial is to inform students about the process of applying for OPT. We will cover eligibility requirements, expectations, and required documentation.
