A Guide to Completing Your Admissions Application

Shocker students sharing a tablet in Ablah Library.

Admissions applications are open for Fall 2023 at Wichita State! Our Undergraduate Admissions staff understands there are a lot of questions that need answers. Luckily our office has put together this helpful list to guide high school seniors through the application process.

If you don’t see the answer to your question, don’t hesitate to reach out to our office at (316) 978-3085 or admissions@wichita.edu.

TRANSCRIPTS

Where do I send my transcript?
We don't need your transcripts until you have completed your senior year. Upon graduation, your counselor will need to send your official transcript to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. Here is a helpful guide to sending transcripts, including our mailing address.

What if I have a different name than what would be on my transcripts?
There is a spot for preferred name on the application.

I took dual credit classes at a local community college, do I have to list that and where?
YES! We want you to list your high school as well as anywhere you are taking college courses and/or getting college credit. We don't need the community college transcripts until you've completed taking coursework there, but listing it on your app will allow us to remind you to turn those in.

If I don't have all of my GPA info now or my parents'/guardians' cell phone number, should I wait and apply later instead?
You can usually log into your school system and look at your GPA. Wait - you don't have your parents' cell phone number? That's on you!

What's the deadline to apply?
We don't have a specific deadline to apply - we have rolling admissions. However, the earlier you apply, the better position you will be to get info about scholarships, sign up for housing and meet other deadlines.

APPLICATION & FEES

Where do I submit my letters of recommendation and essays?
You do not need to submit any additional information other than what is necessary for the application. There are no essay requirements for Wichita State's admission application. However, it is a good practice to save essays you've written for possible scholarship essays. Wichita State has ScholarshipUniverse where you can create a profile and be matched with all scholarships you qualify for in one place. Check with your admissions rep if you have further questions.

Can I pay the app fee later?
Yes, you can pay later, however your application will not be processed until the payment is complete.

Can I pay for the app fee with cash?
Yes, at the front desk of the Marcus Welcome Center on Wichita State's main campus.

What if I'm graduating early?
We have an early graduation form you will need to fill out and have your high school send to our office.

Can I have my application fee waived?
There will be a section on the application where students who qualify can request an application fee waiver. If you mark “yes” on the fee waiver section, there will be a follow-up question on the application.

MAJORS

What if I can’t find my major?
Wichita State has a comprehensive list of programs to browse through. If you're undecided, but leaning towards one, it is a good practice to put that on your application. This is because, in some cases, you may be eligible for scholarships associated with that degree. If you're still unsure, you can put undecided and update later. You cannot declare a minor or double major until you meet with your first-year advisor.

What major should I choose if I'm pre-med?
For pre-med students, it is best to major in one of the sciences or biomedical engineering. Feel free to look at our pre-med website and reach out to our pre-med advisors for further questions. Wichita State also offers a seminar for pre-med students that is good to take during your first year.

TEST SCORES

What if I don’t have the GPA or ACT/SAT score to apply?
Still apply! If you take the ACT/SAT by the September date, you may score high enough to qualify for our Freshmen Merit Scholarships. You don't need the ACT/SAT to be admitted if you have a 2.25 unweighted GPA or higher. If you do take the ACT/SAT, be sure to code Wichita State to receive your scores. If you forget, you can have your school send them to us.

What if I don't have my ACT/SAT score yet?
You can still apply without a test score. Just be sure to send us those scores later to be eligible for scholarships!

Should I still submit my ACT/SAT if it's a bad score? Will it hurt my chances of admission if it's bad?
Still submit your scores! As long as you meet ONE of the admissions requirements, you will be automatically admitted. Even if you don't meet the auto criteria, your application will still be reviewed individually. Feel free to retake your ACT/SAT by the Dec. 1 Freshman Merit deadline for the opportunity to qualify for more scholarship funds.

Do you superscore the ACT/SAT?
Wichita State does not superscore.
