Wichita State also offers another resource for our incoming Veteran students - Veterans Upward Bound. VUB’s goal is to prepare Veterans for post-secondary education. It is a TRIO Program funded by the U.S. Department of Education. Wichita State's program serves Veterans residing in Sedgwick, Butler, Harvey, Kingman, Sumner and Reno counties. While in the VUB program students will work one-on-one with an academic advisor discussing interests, and short-term and long-term goals. A plan is developed following an academic assessment to determine strengths and weaknesses. VUB also assists with school applications and the financial aid process. It also gives referrals to other agencies providing services to Veterans.
More resources for military and veteran students include:
- Army ROTC - Provides a wide range of scholarships allowing students to join the National Guard or Army Reserves, or to commission into active duty.
- WSU McConnell Campus - Education opportunities are offered by Wichita State University at McConnell AFB to military retirees, veterans, service members, DoD civilian employees, qualifying family members, and non-DoD individuals, including civilians who are currently enrolled as WSU students. If you are a student at Wichita State University and would want to attend classes on McConnell AFB but do not yet have a valid ID card to enter the base, the Military Education Specialist may provide you information and paperwork.
Wichita State has been recognized as being one of the top Military and Veteran friendly campuses in the United States because it cares about those students that have proudly served and those dependents that support them. The staff here are happy to work with you through the admissions process and all the way to graduation.
