Here at Shocker Rowing we were proud to commemorate five decades of unparalleled dedication, teamwork, and triumph out on the water. Since our founding in 1974, Shocker Rowing has stood as a symbol of unwavering passion for the sport and a commitment to fostering exceptional athletes. Our journey throughout these past fifty years has been filled with unforgettable moments and inspiring stories of hard work and perseverance. We invited past and present members, coaches, and supporters to join us in commemorating this remarkable milestone. As we celebrated our 50th Anniversary, we reflectrd on the legacy of Shocker Rowing and look forward to an even brighter future as we continue to push the boundaries of excellence in the sport we love.

Alumni Row
Former athletes returned to the water to experience once more the exhilaration of
a row, at the Alumni Row. An event that rekindled the camaraderie and passion that
had characterized their time within the program. These celebrations served not merely
as reunions but as moments of continuity, offering a rare opportunity to bridge generations
of rowers.
Participants were able to met alumni whose individual stories formed the foundation of the organization’s rich history, while also engaging with current athletes who carried the program’s ideals forward with pride and unwavering dedication. Through these encounters, the enduring spirit of Shocker Rowing was both honored and renewed, reinforcing its place in the broader narrative of the university’s athletic heritage.
Campus Tours
Rowers that haden't visited in years, were invited to take part in a campus tour.
Rediscovering the beauty and vibrancy of the campus, seeing the new developments,
and experiencing the familiar spaces they once called home.
An insightful journey through the university, showcasing:
- Academic and Research Buildings: Newly constructed academic buildings and research labs that are fostering innovation and learning.
- Student Life and Housing: Modern living accommodations and social spaces that are enhancing student life on campus.
- Community Spaces: Renovated common areas and outdoor spaces that encourage collaboration and community engagement.
Cocktail Reception
The Shocker Rowing 50th Cocktail Reception brought generations of athletes and supporters
together in a warm celebration of shared history. Former teammates reunited with families
in tow, reminiscing about early‑morning practices, hard‑won victories, and the challenges
that shaped their years on the water. Guests enjoyed a spread of food and a selection
of beverages—as they reconnected and reflected on the program’s evolution. Throughout
the evening, a slideshow of photographs traced five decades of growth, capturing the
spirit, grit, and camaraderie that defined the team.
Speeches from coaches, alumni, and current rowers added a deeper sense of continuity, highlighting the values that have carried Shocker Rowing from its earliest days to its present strength. Plains Regional Regatta & 50th Anniversary Dedication
These events marked a significant moment in the ongoing story of Shocker Rowing, bringing
together alumni, supporters, and current athletes to witness how far the program has
come. Attendees reflected on the remarkable growth achieved since their own time on
the team, recognizing that the program they helped build continues to support new
generations of rowers.
The regatta offered a vivid display of the program’s future as current athletes took to the water in an exhibition that showcased their skill and determination. Midday, the community gathered for the anniversary celebration, a moment that blended pride, gratitude, and a deep sense of continuity.
The ceremony featured remarks from WSU President Rick Muma and the presentation of an official proclamation from the Mayor, acknowledging the profound impact Shocker Rowing has had over its fifty‑year history. This recognition underscored the program’s importance to both the university and the broader community. The event concluded with the announcement of newly dedicated racing shells, named in honor of the program’s legacy and the many individuals whose contributions shaped its success. Together, these moments created a celebration that honored the past while looking confidently toward the decades still to come.
