Shocker Rowing is fortunate in that the Frostbite Regatta takes place on the Little
Arkansas in Wichita. This scenic river runs through the historic and beautiful Riverside
neighborhood. The course has many curves and requires sharp navigation through bridges,
making it one of the most difficult regattas to steer, but great training for Wichita
State University coxswains and scullers.
Shocker Rowing uses the location to train for the Frostbite, or when other occasions
require the longer waterway. The Little Arkansas has been home to Shocker Rowing and
Wichita Rowing in the past. In fact, Wichitans have been rowing on the Little Arkansas
since 1898, when the Murdock Boat House and Riverside Boat Company were one of the
town’s premier entertainments.
