OVERVIEW

PURPOSE

The Office of Academic Affairs is seeking one or two faculty members with an interest in developing and advancing a priority project related to University’s Strategic Plan.  This work touches on Strategic Planning goals #3 and #6, capitalizing systemically on relevant existing and emerging societal and economic trends that increase quality educational opportunities, and being a campus that reflects the evolving diversity of society.

PROJECT GOAL

  • Foster a dialogue on campus around excellence in undergraduate education and enrollment growth. Fellow(s) would attend 2-3 national conferences focused on professional development in higher education and administration with an emphasis on curriculum and program development (general education, first year seminars, etc.), and student success (particularly a focus on helping underserved populations).

 ROLE DEFINITION / EXPECTED CONTRIBUTIONS:

  • Identify / select conferences to attend for AY 2019-20
  • Make travel arrangements
  • Attend a good variety of the panels / presentations
  • Connect with other attendees who might continue to serve as assets for WSU initiatives
  • Share ideas gleaned from conferences with others on campus (luncheon, presentation, dept visits, visit with committees working on the topic area, etc.).
  • Contribute reports / news articles to disseminate innovations / best practices shared at the conferences.
  • Identify one task / area where you’d like to see positive progress on campus, submit a proposal to Academic Affairs on how to make an advance in this area, and take steps to effect that change.

The Fellow will work closely with an Assistant or Associate VP in Academic Affairs on this initiative.

SELECTION CRITERIA

Applicants will be evaluated on the following criteria:

  • A commitment to advancing WSU’s Strategic Plan
  • A demonstrated express interest in curricular and program development and student success in undergraduate education.
  • Strong communication skills and high level of campus engagement (to share information across campus)
  • Ability to effectively bring interested parties together around a common goal

  • Letter of interest stating how you meet the selection criteria, and a topic area of undergraduate education and/or student success that you’d like to delve into further.
  • Letter of support from the Chair and Dean of your academic department, that confirms how you meet the selection criteria, and that you are available to serve in this capacity during the summer.
