Overview

Alaina Clarice is the recently appointed Assistant Educator of Flute at Wichita State University. She previously served on the flute faculty at Texas A&M University-Commerce and maintained a large private studio in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Her students have earned top positions in honor bands and ensembles, along with acceptances into undergraduate and graduate music education and performance programs. Additionally, Alaina has served on the board of the Texas Flute Society and is currently the High School Flute Choir Coordinator for the National Flute Association.

As a performer, Alaina has distinguished herself as a solo and chamber musician. She made her Carnegie Hall debut in 2018 as a First Prize winner of the Golden Classical Music Awards International Competition and was recently awarded Second Prize of the Alexander & Buono Flute Competition. In 2023, she performed Hisatada Otaka’s Flute Concerto with the University of North Texas Orchestra as a winner of the William Gammon Henry Concerto Competition. Alaina has participated as a Flute Apprentice at the National Music Festival and as a Fellowship recipient at Mostly Modern Festival, performing many standards and newly composed solo, chamber, and orchestral works. 

Alaina can be heard on albums featuring the music of Kory Reeder, which have been released on record labels throughout the United States and abroad. She is also a member of the professional flute quartet, Vox Venti, whose performances highlight the works of living and underrepresented composers. Her involvement has led to performances and presentations at various conventions and festivals, such as the Bowling Green New Music Festival, SEAMUS, Texas Flute Festival, National Flute Association, Florida Flute Association, and Mid Atlantic Flute conventions.

Currently, Alaina is a doctoral candidate at the University of North Texas where she served as a Teaching Fellow and member of the Wind Symphony, Symphony Orchestra, Chinese Ensemble, and NOVA new music ensemble. Prior to UNT, she received her Master of Music degree from Bowling Green State University and was a Graduate Teaching Assistant in flute, and a Bachelor of Music degree from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. Alaina’s teachers include Terri Sundberg, Conor Nelson, James Scott, Elizabeth McNutt, Amy Taylor, Shelly Monier, and Kristen Hammiel.
