Overview

Steven G. Kelly has had a lifelong career in healthcare leadership.  He most recently finished a seventeen-year position as the President and CEO of Newton Medical Center in Newton, Kansas, before taking the full-time position of Assistant Professor in Public Health Services at Wichita State University.  He recently retired from there in May 2021.

Steve has been recognized for his healthcare leadership, agreeing to serve two terms as the Chair of the Kansas Hospital Association.  In recognition of his leadership, KHA awarded him their most prestigious honor, the Charles Billings Award, in 2017.  This award recognizes the significant impact that the recipient has made in promoting health care in Kansas.  Steve has also served as the President of the Virginia State Rural Health Association.

Steve has an academic background that includes a B.S. in Business, an M.S. in the Administration of Health Services, and a Doctorate in Health Care Leadership from the Medical University of South Carolina.  He has a nursing home license and is a Fellow of the American College of Health Care Executives.

As an active member of his community, Steve has served as the President of the Chamber of Commerce, President of Harvey County Economic Development Council, and President of Kiwanis.  In recognition of his service and leadership, his community has honored him with the Citizen of the Year Award.  Steve also serves as a member of the Board of Healing Arts for Kansas and on the Board of Youth Horizons.

Steve and his wife are proud parents of three sons and seven grandchildren.  He enjoys spending time with his family, playing tennis, and serving as a Sunday School teacher at his church.
