Overview

Master Sergeant Michael A. York was born in San Diego, CA. He enlisted into the United States Army Reserves as a Motor Transport Operator in July of 2000. He later transitioned to the Regular Army in 2006 as a Field Artillery Firefinder Radar Operator. His most recent assignment was as the Senior Military Science Instructor for Christopher Newport University in Newport News, Virginia.

Previously, he served as the First Sergeant of Headquarters & Headquarters Battery and Battery D in the 1st BN, 5th FA Regiment in Fort Riley, Kansas. He served as an instructor for the Advanced Leaders Course and Senior Leaders Course at the Fires Center of Excellence Noncommissioned Officers Academy in Fort Sill, Oklahoma. MSG York also served as a Security Forces Advisor to the Afghan National Army, a Target Acquisition Platoon Sergeant, Senior Field Artillery Targeting Sergeant, Weapons Locating Radar Section Chief and Senior Radar Operator.

He has been stationed in Fort Riley twice, Fort Sill twice, Fort Bliss and Newport News, VA. While serving in these assignments, he deployed six times to Iraq, Afghanistan, Kuwait and Poland. 

MSG York has an Associate’s degree in Natural Science and is a graduate of the Army’s Master, Senior, Advanced and Basic Leaders Courses. He is also a graduate of the Master Educator Course, Security Forces Advisor Academy, Master Combatives Trainer Course, Common Faculty Developer’s Course, the Equal Opportunity Advisor Course and multiple functional area courses.   

He is married and has two children. His hobbies include hunting and fishing.
