The NASA Disaster Literacy Workshop for Kansas Middle School Teachers was held on the beautiful WSU campus on June 12 - 16, 2023.

Workshop Goals

This 5-day workshop aimed to create lesson plans for middle-school classrooms.

The lessons leverage existing NASA materials related to natural hazards and focus on understanding and interpreting data for assessing the preparedness of at-risk communities.

The workshop was conducted by faculty and student members of the Disaster Resilience Analytics Center at WSU.

Kansas Middle School Teachers

Participation Cost:

Free.

All participants received stipends upon completion of the workshop.

 

Stipend Information:

Each workshop participant received a stipend of $1,000 for completing the workshop.

Participants living more than 50 miles away from Wichita received additional $500 (to offset some travel costs).

9 - 9:30 AM Check-In & Breakfast

Noon - 1:30 PM Lunch
1:30 - 3 PM Lab Session

* Lab sessions provided practice for lesson plan development.  The last day of the workshop involved presentations by participants on tentative lesson plans developed.
