What to Look For

Gloves

(Rubber & Leather)

·       Test before first use and every 6 months after

·       Inspect for damage before each use

·       Perform glove roll air pressure test to assess condition before each use

·       Store in a clean and dry location.

·       Dispose of PPE contaminated with petroleum-based lubricants

·       Holes in gloves

·       Dirty gloves

·       Metal particles embedded in the gloves

·       Chemical substances that may cause damage

Safety Glasses/Goggles

·       Inspect for damage before each use

·       Store in a clean and dry location

·       Scratches or cracks

Arc Flash Face Shields

·       Inspect for damage and cleanliness before each use

·       Store in a face shield bag to protect from dust and damage

·       Clean with a mild detergent and soft rag

·       Dirt or oil on the face shield

·       Cracks in the face shield

Arc Rated Garments

·       Long-sleeved shirts

·       Pants

·       Jacket

·       Arc Suit

·       Inspect before each use

·       Store in kit bags or in a clean/dry location

·       Follow manufacturer guidance for laundering equipment. Failure to follow guidance may reduce PPE effectiveness

·       Do not use chlorine bleach, hydrogen peroxide, softeners, or starch when laundering

·       Oil or dirt on fabric

·       Tears in fabric

·       Contaminated or damaged articles that diminish protective qualities must never be used

Footwear

·       Inspect before each use

·       Store in a clean and dry location

·       Chemical contamination

·       Tears or holes in shoes

·       Holes in soles

Insulated  Equipment and Tools

·       Inspect before each use

·       Store in a clean and dry location, away from direct sunlight

·       Embedded foreign objects

·       Holes/Punctures

·       Swelling/Cracking
