Rubric Used During Request Evaluation
This rubric is used by the HPC Administrators to evaluate requests for storage beyond the default allocation. For questions and to submit requests for increased storage, submit an HPC Support Ticket.
Eligibility

- Graduate student with PI/advisor approval
- Undergraduate student with PI/advisor approval
- Request supports WSU research or instructional activity
Justification Quality (0-3)
Does the request clearly explain why additional storage is needed?
| Score | Description |
| 0 | No clear justification or unrelated to HPC use |
| 1 | Minimal explanation; vague or generic need |
| 2 | Clear project description and data type |
| 3 | Strong justification (large simulations, experimental data, ML, funded project) |
Data Management Plan (0-2)
Is the storage being used responsibly?
| Score | Description |
| 0 | No plan for cleanup or data lifecycle |
| 1 | Basic plan (duration or size estimate provided) |
| 2 | Clear plan for usage, cleanup, or archiving |
Prior Usage & Compliance (0-2)
Has the user been a responsible HPC citizen?
| Score | Description |
| 0 | Prior misuse, ignored cleanup requests |
| 1 | Neutral or limited history |
| 2 | Good compliance and efficient home directory & scratch storage use (e.g. proper & regular cleaning of data, contact of HPC Support regarding data use/storage) |
Approval Recommendation
- Approve: Total 5-7
- Approve with Conditions (time-limited, reduced allocation): Total 3–4
- Denial / Request Revision: Total ≤ 2
Approved requests will be incremental (first request will increase storage to 2T; second request to 5T).
Student allocations are tied to advisor/PI accounts where feasible.
