The mission of the Information Security and Privacy team, in collaboration with the Wichita State University community, is to protect Wichita State’s electronic data and information technology systems from information security threats while securing and protecting the confidentiality and privacy of students, faculty and staff information.

Core Objectives

 

• Proactively design data privacy and security into our technology and processes.​
• Create policies and initiatives to identify and respond to internal and external data privacy and security risks​.
• Educate and train WSU personnel on the importance of privacy and security for all stakeholders. ​
• Increase transparency around  WSU’s access, sharing, and use​ of data.

Guiding Principles:

• Collect data as needed for legitimate business, research, or educational use​s.
• Use and share data consistent with fair and ethical data use principles.
• Retain only as long as needed for purpose of collection​.
• Secure by ensuring controls are risk-based and appropriate.
