Telecommunications Services

Telecommunications Services offers a variety of services to the campus community including voice and data connectivity and communication including long distance, voice mail, cellular and pager services, project management of remodels and construction projects. Telecommunications Services is the primary provider of two-way voice communications services at Wichita State University. The Director of Telecommunications Services serves as a member of the ITS Leadership Team.

Our mission is to establish and maintain advanced voice and physical layer data communication environments in support of instruction, research and administration.

Those services and responsibilities include installing and maintaining the physical layer of the voice and data networks including both inside plant and outside plant copper and fiber optic cabling by using both internal staff and by outsourcing to external contractors as necessary. Voice services include installation, modifications, programming, and maintenance of voice services on campus and at remote sites through the University phone and voice mail system, including maintenance of servers, gateways, trunking, etc., this also includes maintaining other internal phone systems such as a Cisco Call Manager and Asterisk system; performs physical installation, fiber optic & copper connectivity of Ethernet switches and ports. Telecommunications contracts and pays for, and maintains circuits for local and long distance voice trunking between all internal and external voice systems; as well as Metro Ethernet WAN services for data connectivity to remote campuses, research centers, and smaller offices; performs acquisition, payments, direct bill back to customers, and all service maintenance on University liable cell phones; bill back for all services is done using MySoft, a common Telemanagement software system; and provides campus operator services.

Telecommunications Services:

  • Performs installations, moves, changes, and removes on University telephones and voice mail.
  • Performs physical installation, fiber optic & copper connectivity of Ethernet switches and ports.
  • Maintains the University phone and voice mail systems; performs all programming and maintenance internally including maintenance of servers, gateways, trunking, etc.; also maintains other internal phone systems such as a Cisco Call Manager and Asterisk system.
  • Contracts and pays for, and maintains circuits for local and long distance voice trunking between all internal and external voice systems, as well as Metro Ethernet WAN services for data connectivity to remote campuses, research centers, and smaller offices.
  • Performs acquisition, payments, direct bill back to customers, and all service maintenance on University liable cell phones.
  • Performs bill back for all services using MySoft, a common Telemanagement software system.
  • Provides campus operator services.
