Changes Coming to the MRC

The Media Resources Center is going through some changes in the coming fiscal year — all for the better! We will be making some staff adjustments and taking on new challenges.

The new MRC Web Team was formed in the past year, with their primary focus on supporting departments, offices, and centers as they learn to use the new content management system Omni Update Campus, which is replacing the old Department Tools this fall. The MRC’s web team has been created to support and supplement the web development and marketing work provided by Strategic Communications.

An even bigger change — and one that is at least as exciting as OU Campus, is what we have in store for WSU-TV. For over 30 years, WSU-TV has broadcast on Cox Cable in the Sedgwick County area — a service provided by Cox as part of their agreement with the City of Wichita. For most of those years WSU-TV was a valuable delivery method for lectures and educational content — including a lot of telecourses.

But times change. Telecourses are almost gone from our catalogs, and students no longer access those lectures via cable. At the same time, WSU is becoming more than a regional institution, and our reach for video needs to be much bigger than just the Sedgwick County Area.

So, we’re cutting the cable and moving WSU-TV online. We'll kick things off with a website where live video of our events will continue to be available. After that, we are launching a Roku channel, making our videos available on smart TVs with Roku built-in and to anyone who uses a Roku at home to stream content. Stay tuned, because we're not stopping there.

We know you’ll be watching — see you online!
