Healthy Behaviors
February typically brings to mind hearts and flowers. This time of year also brings with it cold and flu season. Maintaining healthy behaviors will help your student stay well and prevent them from missing out on classes and activities. For some students, college may be the first time they manage their health care needs on their own. Prepare your student for this new experience by making sure they have knowledge of — or access to — important personal medical information including any allergies, medications they take, immunization records and past medical history such as previous surgeries or serious injuries/illnesses.
How Can Families Help?
- Talk to your student about healthy choices and the impact of health on their lives.
- Learn about the resources and services available to your student on campus. One important resource is Student Health Services, which provides health education and services to all currently enrolled students. Another is Counseling and Psychological Services.
- Communicate with your student to find out how they are adjusting to college. Try to make time to have meaningful conversations.
- Let your student talk. Practice listening without giving advice unless requested. Be willing to talk about the tough topics like relationships, drinking and sex.
Conversation Starters
- What’s your day-to-day schedule?
- What activities have you been doing outside of class/course work?
- What food options do you like on campus?
- How are things going with your roommate?
- How are you adjusting to you new schedule?
- Are there any intramurals sports you are interested in?

Student Transition from One-Stop Advising to Their Academic College
To date, your students have been working with their first-year advisor in OneStop Student Services to schedule classes. Students will now begin transitioning from their first-year advisor to the advisors in their academic college. First-year advisors are here to help students with their spring classes and will reach out to students to let them know of the pending transition and who their new academic advisor will be.
Advisors are hosting two events to introduce students to their college advisor. Both events will take place on the first floor of Shocker Success Center.
Tuesday, February 24, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
Wednesday, February 25, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
OneStop Student Services remains available throughout your student's entire time at Wichita State—from their first semester through graduate school—to assist with financial aid, student accounts, records, and registration questions. Students can connect with us:

Campus Housing News
If your student is planning to live on campus, now is the time to submit their WSU Housing Application. The second earlybird deadline is March 1st at 11:59pm. Students who complete their application by this deadline will be in the second round of the room selection process that takes place later this spring.
Students should follow these 3 easy steps:
1. Complete the housing application at mywsu.wichita.edu. To access they need to login and on the Campus Housing link in the Student Tools box.
The application includes completing their LLC preferences and entering their FERPA and emergency contact info.
2. Pay the $75.00 application fee and the $200.00 prepayment to secure a space.
Both payments must be on file to consider your application complete.
3. Complete their personal profile. On February 15th, the second phase of the application will open for students to enter information about themselves on their personal profile to be matched with potential roommates. Students will also be able to start making roommate groups for room selection. Additionally, starting on February 15th, students will need to submit their meningitis immunization documentation on their myShockerHealth portal.
Room selection runs mid-March through mid-April. Notification will be sent to each student via their WSU email with their assigned date and time that they can log back into the housing portal and select their room and meal plan.
