Staff Senate School Supply Drive

WSU Staff Senate is excited to share an opportunity to support neighboring schools and the Wichita community by facilitating the collection of school supplies for local youth organizations.  There are two businesses we will be supporting: ICT Launchpad, a youth organization; and 3 Keys Fitness, who has partnered with a local youth group (Equity Initiative). Could you help us meet our donation goals? Below is some information about donation needs and collection locations on campus.

Our collection goals are:

Donations may be submitted at one of the following locations:

  • OneStop
  • Ablah Library
  • Engineering Dean’s Office, Partnership 2 building
  • The Ulrich Museum

The deadline for donations is August 10th, 2022.

The school supplies and backpacks will be given out to students at two separate organization’s events in the Shocker neighborhood the weekend of August 13th.

The students attending these events will be from various grades/age groups and schools, and because of this, no specific list of items was provided. However, this is from the USD 259 supply list for elementary students:

  • Backpack
  • 1 pencil pouch (3-ring to go in binders)
  • 1 pencil box (plastic preferred)
  • 1 package 3x3 sticky notes
  • Notebook paper (wide rule)
  • 1 Ruler
  • 2 pink erasers
  • Washable markers (8-10 count)
  • Crayons (24 pack)
  • 2 glue sticks
  • 1 pair scissors
  • 1 package No. 2 pencils (mechanical are acceptable as well)

Most middle school students will need spiral notebooks and/or Composition books, college-ruled (or wide ruled) loose-leaf notebook paper, EXPO markers, 3 ring binders, tab dividers, packages of 3x5 index cards, highlighters, colored pencils, regular pencils and pens, glue sticks, pencil pouch (3-ring to go in binder), post-it notes, erasers, earbuds. High school students will have similar needs, but it varies from school to school.

Backpacks should be new and sturdy enough to survive the full school year.

It would be helpful if donated items are in quantities of 40, such as 40 notebooks, 40 scissors, etc. – this is not required, but would be helpful.
