What does it mean to be First Generation?

A First Generation student is someone whose parents did not graduate from college with a four-year degree. The reason this is important is because students whose parents did graduate from college often benefit from their parents' experience and guidance. Without the same parental assistance, First Gen students face more challenges and can have lower rates of persistence and graduation.

As a First Forward institution, Wichita State has demonstrated a commitment to improving experiences and advancing outcomes of First Gen college students. WSU cares, and is committed to providing the information, resources and support First Gen students need to succeed.
