Dialoging with Dr. Rhone
Hi, Student Support Services Scholars.
I am honored to be the Director of TRIO-Student Support Services at Wichita State University. Over three decades ago, I was a student in what is now known as Student Support Services. At that time, I was a first-generation and low-income student. I am thrilled to have the opportunity to return to Wichita State University and direct the department where I received encouragement and many resources to complete an undergraduate degree.
One of my roles over the past three decades has been the role of teacher education university professor – I develop educators. Researching, writing, and teaching Social Justice material have been and continue to be a large part of my life. I am the Director of Student Support Services (serving the populations that I have been researching, writing, teaching, and teaching others how to reach) AND a graduate teacher education faculty member at a local university. When I research, write, and teach, it forces me to see the world from different perspectives.
Dr. Rhone’s Corner is designed to invite you to read and reflect on the articles posted
once per month. My hope is that you appreciate these nuggets of knowledge and seeing
the world from a different perspective. Once you read, reflect, and post your thoughts
on an article, I plan to reward you with a gift card for Starbucks. It is only if you have read an article carefully, reflected on it thoroughly, and
articulated your thoughts in an organized manner that you will be rewarded with a
gift card for Starbucks – you will be expected to post your thoughts. SSS-Professional
Staff will view your posts. We will come to a collective decision about who deserves
a reward. You will be featured in our monthly Gazette, if your article post is selected.
It is important to be respectful as you post.
It is not necessary for you to agree with the author or any article. What matters
is that you demonstrate your ability to dialogue with the article (talk back to it).
What are your thoughts? How relevant is the article in general and how relevant is
it to you on a personal level?
**You are expected to select one article and write two paragraphs on the article you
selected.
