Administrative Component: The administrative component focuses on coordinating activities and resources to ensure an effective management of the project. This includes managing and maintaining an efficient system of internal controls such as computerized budget systems, purchasing processes, program inventory, human resource processes and student assistant supervision.

Communications & Marketing Component: The communications and marketing component focuses on creating strategic and efficient marketing and publicity tactics to build strong relations with the Wichita State faculty, staff, students, and community. The communications and marketing of SSS is a collaborative effort to inform the campus of our departmental mission and promote the free services we offer to first-generation and income-eligible students and students of disability status through print and digital media, campus events, orientations, meetings, and social media.

This includes working closely with other campus departments to give them the tools, resources, and information needed to discuss our services and student eligibility requirements. The partnership and information sharing amongst departments helps publicize services offered by the program to eligible participants and the campus community and initiates student referrals.

Advising Component: The advising component entails advising active SSS participants in academics, goal setting, financial literacy, graduate school advice, and life skill development. This includes scheduling monthly advising appointments with a caseload of students during the Fall and Spring semesters and documenting each advising session in an online database for record-keeping and program evaluation.

About Chelsea: I graduated from Wichita State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Integrated Marketing Communication in 2017. I have been with TRIO Student Support Services since 2019 and have enjoyed the work we do here very much. I also have more than six years of experience in banking before starting a family and eventually leading me to WSU. I have also been a freelance social media management specialist managing multiple client accounts and strategically producing industry-leading social media content. Outside of work, I enjoy spending quality time with my husband and daughter, traveling, and crafting (love to crochet).
