Quantitative & Qualitative Report


The Quantitative & Qualitative (Q&Q) Report highlights successes of the SSS program. This report presents the performance outcomes and examines the quantitative & qualitative objectives of recruitment, retention and graduation of our program participants.

Quantitative & Qualitative Summary 2020-21
Quantitative Summary

Students Served:

  • 224 students received project services
  • 75% of SSS students were both first-generation (neither parent has a 4-year degree) and low-income (family taxable income did not exceed 150% of the poverty level)
  • 19% were first generation only
  • 6% were low-income only

Good Academic Standing:

  • 87% of program participants remained in Good Academic Standing with a GPA > 2.0
  • 82% completed the year with a GPA ≥ 2.5
  • 72% completed the year with a GPA ≥ 3.0

Persistence:

  • 72% of project students enrolled in 2018-19 re-enrolled at Wichita State and the SSS project for 2020-21

Graduation:

  • 34% of participants of 2015-16 cohort graduated with a bachelor's degree in 2020-21 (within 6 years)
  • Total of 76 students graduated in 2020-21

Advising:

  • A total of 430 advising contacts were provided to project participants

Tutoring Services:

  • 14 students who were enrolled in 79 credit hours were supported through individualized tutoring

Funding:

  • SSS project awarded $4,500.00 in EOF and $7,740.00 in Endowed Scholarships to its participants
  • SSS students retained at Wichita State with $3,777,706.00 in federal financial assistance
Qualitative Summary
  • Oldest SSS project in the State of Kansas: assisting students since 1970
  • Advising: SSS academic advisors provided academic, personal, financial aid, career and graduate school advising
  • Tutoring: 7 tutors were available for tutoring in lower level undergraduate courses during the Fall 2021 and Spring 2021
  • Study Skills: an extensive list of videos and interactive worksheets were available in the SSS Technology Lab as well as an online class exclusively for SSS participants
  • Financial Literacy Skills: online class through MyCollegeMoneyPlan.org and an online collection of assessments over class material available to students
  • SSS Technology Learning Lab: workspace and computers, where students may study, access study skills and/or financial literacy resources, or meet with tutors
  • Textbook Library: extensive collection of over 600 textbooks available for SSS participants to borrow
  • Through referrals to the Office of Special Programs(OSP):laptops and iPads were available for SSS participants to check out
  • SSS Newsletter: published 12 times a year
  • 42nd Annual Awards & Recognition Ceremony held virtually in May 2021 to recognize project students, graduates and scholarship recipients

Quantitative Summary

Students Served:

  • 250 students received project services
  • 70% of SSS students were both first-generation (neither parent has a 4-year degree) and low-income (family taxable income did not exceed 150% of the poverty level)
  • 21.6% were first generation only
  • 7.60% were low-income only
  • Less than 2% were students with disability only and/or disability and low income

Good Academic Standing:

  • 96% of program participants remained in Good Academic Standing with a GPA > 2.0
  • 86% completed the year with a GPA ≥ 2.5
  • 65% completed the year with a GPA ≥ 3.0

Persistence:

  • 89% of project students enrolled in 2018-19 re-enrolled at Wichita State and the SSS project for 2019-20

Graduation:

  • 54% of participants of 2014-15 cohort graduated with a bachelor's degree in 2019-20 (within 6 years)
  • Total of 52 students graduated in 2019-20

Advising:

  • A total of 1,290 advising contacts were provided to project participants

Tutoring Services:

  • 40 students who were enrolled in 162 credit hours were supported through individualized tutoring

Funding:

  • SSS project awarded $3,750.00 in EOF and $9,000 in Endowed Scholarships to its participants
  • SSS students retained at Wichita State with $3,308,126.28 in federal financial assistance
Qualitative Summary
  • Oldest SSS project in the State of Kansas: assisting students since 1970
  • Advising: SSS academic advisors provided academic, personal, financial aid, career and graduate school advising
  • Tutoring: 26 tutors were available for tutoring in lower level undergraduate courses during the Fall 2019, Spring 2020 and Summer 2020 semesters
  • Study Skills: an extensive list of videos and interactive worksheets were available in the SSS Technology Lab as well as an online class exclusively for SSS participants
