Welcome and Meeting called to order
- Welcome to the 2012-2013 Classified Senate
- Matt hopes everyone enjoyed their summer
- All senators make introductions.
- Matt lists his expectations for every senator:
- You are a liaison between the senate and your constituents.
- Every senator is assigned constituents. Matt will send the constituent lists to each senator in one or two weeks.
- You are required to attend classified senate meetings. (If you are unable to attend,
please contact Matt or Melissa)
- Meetings are the second Wednesday of every month
- 3:30 – 5:00 p.m.
- Lindquist Hall Room 200
- November 14th meeting will be in a different place
- Room will be announced soon
- Matt will give the senators a paper calendar
- Matt will look into new business cards for the senators.
- You are a liaison between the senate and your constituents.
- Committees
- Sign up for them!
- Commit your time to the committee.
- We will be creating a new committee: Scholarship Committee to help choose the recipients of the Shocker Employee and Dependent Scholarship.
- If you have any questions, ask Matt.
- We need names of people who are interested in filling the vacant positions in the
senate. Please encourage them. Anyone from any category can fill the vacancies; they
do NOT need to be in the category listed.
- One vacancy in category 30
- One vacancy in category 50
- Two vacancies in category 60 (Physical Plant/Skilled Trade)
- Two vacancies in category 70 (Police/Other Environmental Workers)
- Old Business
- News from May
- Matt met with the group interested in the alternative to the Civil Service. They met with HR. The group is on hiatus until further notice. Matt communicated with KU on how to become viable, did not receive a positive response.
- News from the CSSC meeting (Regents Schools)
- The Senate passed the 4th year of the payment plan of the Hay Group. The liaisons from KSU/ESU said that the house and senate found money.
- Per Matt: “There was originally an idea that it would be retroactive from the start of this fiscal year; however, after talking with Mary Herrin, I don't believe that will occur. Once the state determines how to distribute the funds, it will only be active from that point forward.”
- If your constituents ask about this, please respond with “We are waiting to hear.”
- The Kansas Senate and House will be in flux until November.
- Matt suggests we interact with the State Representatives more because once a year
is not effective, we need to be more evident. We need to continually remind them who
we are and why we exist. Matt will distribute a list of KS Senators and Representatives
to contact about Classified Employee issues. We need to build ties.
- If you e-mail your State Representative, it MUST be done on your personal computer with your personal e-mail. No work computers or work e-mails!
- Shocker Employee and Dependent Scholarship
- Matt thanks Angie Linder for her help on the scholarship this summer. We appreciate all that she has done. It is benefitting someone positively.
- We have one recipient of the scholarship for fall 2012. Shanda suggests we invite the scholarship winner to a future meeting.
- News from May
- New Business
