Employing through Career Fairs

Airbus Americas attended the Engineering and I.T. Career Fair this fall and found a multitude of qualified candidates. Adding to the mix of current Wichita State undergraduate and graduate students Airbus currently employs, the aerospace company hired 5 more through the career fair. These new hires, ranging from sophomores to graduate students, are now Applied Learning Program, or ALP, Engineering Interns working on a variety of teams and projects.

Before beginning work, ALP employees complete training at NIAR to ensure they are getting hands-on experience and are prepared to apply their knowledge at Airbus from the start.

Ethan Mattocks, Human Resources Representative for Airbus, relayed that these Shockers have integrated their skills into the professional world quite well.

“It is clear that engineering students at WSU receive excellent exposure to industry-accepted engineering principles and techniques,” he stated.

Mattocks also added that attending such events allows employers the opportunity to meet students in a more casual environment – one where it’s easy to communicate a better understanding of what working for Airbus truly means. This setting also encourages candidates to ask questions and gain helpful information about potential employment more comfortably.

“Participating in the career fair added a welcomed extra component to our recruitment and selection process. We really appreciated the support from the Wichita State Career Development Center. This past semester, they have been a tremendous help in getting the Airbus brand out on campus. After attending several career fairs, it is clear to us that there are a huge number of highly talented, bright students that have chosen to pursue their studies at WSU.  We are so excited to see what they will do for the aviation industry in years to come,” Mattocks effused.

Mattocks advises not only students, but employers as well, to get in contact with WSU’s Career Development Center.

“Take time to describe what you are looking for in a candidate and be open to new suggestions. The support Airbus has received from the Career Development Center has been phenomenal.”
