Career Coaching Appointment Types

SCA Career Exploration Coaching – 1 hour

Discover how your interests, values, personality, and strengths connect to possible majors and career paths. Work with a Career Coach to explore career options, identify meaningful experiences, and gain confidence in making informed decisions about your future. Students may be asked to complete PathwayU before or between appointments.

SCA Interview Coaching – 45 minutes

Build confidence in your interview skills and learn how to effectively communicate your strengths, experiences, and accomplishments. Practice answering interview questions, receive personalized feedback, and learn strategies for professional introductions, the STAR method, and navigating the interview process. This appointment can be customized for a specific job, internship, graduate program, or industry.

SCA Job Search Coaching – 45 minutes

Develop a personalized strategy for finding internships, jobs, and other career-building opportunities. Work with a Career Coach to identify target employers, research opportunities, build networking strategies, and learn how to organize and manage your job search effectively. It is recommended that you have a resume prepared before scheduling this appointment.

SCA LinkedIn & Networking Coaching – 45 minutes

Build your professional brand and learn how to create meaningful career connections. In this appointment, you'll receive feedback on your LinkedIn profile, develop networking strategies, practice professional introductions, and learn how to connect with employers, alumni, and professionals in your field. Please have a LinkedIn profile created before your appointment if possible.

SCA Resume Coaching – 45 minutes

Get personalized feedback and coaching to build, improve, or tailor your resume. Learn how to highlight your skills and experiences, strengthen your bullet points, and communicate your value to employers with confidence. Upload your resume before the appointment if you have one.

Professional Photos

The Shocker Career Accelerator offers free professional photos via a brand new photo booth! It's never been easier to update your LinkedIn profile or Shocker Central account.

The photo booth is located outside the Shocker Career Accelerator office in the Marcus Welcome Center. The booth is available Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. when the university is open.

In this online career database, students can search and apply for on-campus employment, co-op/internship positions, and full-time employment!

Forage

The Forage is a virtual work experience program that connects students to top companies through mini work experiences. In only 5-6 hours, you learn relevant tools and develop transferable skills by completing real industry tasks. This is free and self-paced. No experience or application is required. At the end of each program, you receive a certificate that can be put on your resume and your LinkedIn profile.

Best for building skills and gaining applied learning experience.

What Can I Do With This Major?

What Can I Do With This Major? features nearly 100 major profiles with information on common career paths, types of employers that hire in the field, and strategies to maximize opportunities. Scroll to the bottom of each profile for links to professional associations, occupational outlook information, and job search resources.

Micro-Internships

Micro-Internships are short-term, paid, professional assignments that are similar to those given to new hires or interns. Unlike traditional internships, Micro-Internships can take place year-round, typically range from 5 to 40 hours of work, and are due between one week and one month after kick-off. Companies range from those in the Fortune 100 to emerging start-ups and assignments feature departments, including sales, marketing, technology, HR, and finance.

Best for students looking for applied learning, internship, or work experience.

Buzzfile

Buzzfile gives Shockers access to detailed information on virtually every company in Kansas and beyond. Access company profiles immediately and register to conduct advanced searches. Results can be saved, mapped, and shared in just a few clicks. Research companies based on focus, industry, or major.

Best for researching employers.

CareerSpring

CareerSpring is a career access platform designed to support first-generation and low-income students with networking and job placement. As a WSU student, you’ll get exclusive access to:

• Jobs and internships with 95+ mission-driven employers
• Live support from CareerSpring staff
