Fraternity and Sorority Life, also oftentimes called Greek Life, is a group of student
organizations that focuses on community, academics, leadership, and service. Our community
is comprised of 26 Greek-letter organizations. Each organization is part of an inter/national
organization. Every organization has its own traditions and guidelines. Membership
in these organizations last for a lifetime. Our organizations are organized into four
different councils – Cultural Greek Council, Interfraternity Council, National Pan-Hellenic
Council, and Panhellenic Council. Each council helps to manage and lead the community
at large.
The Interfraternity Council (IFC) is the governing body and policy-making organization
of the North American Interfraternity Conference fraternities and social fraternities.
IFC's chief purpose is to coordinate the effort of the individual fraternities in
matters of philanthropy, scholarship, leadership and brotherhood.
The Cultural Greek Council (CGC), formerly know as Multicultural Greek Council, is
the governing body and policy-making organization of the six (6) culturally based
social fraternities and sororities at Wichita State. CGC's chief purpose is to coordinate
the effort of the individual fraternities and sororities in matters of service, scholarship,
brotherhood/sisterhood, leadership and academic excellence.
The National Pan-Hellenic Council, Inc. (NPHC), also referred to as the Divine Nine,
is the umbrella organization housing nine black Greek-letter organizations. Each of the nine NPHC organizations evolved during a period when African Americans
were being denied essential rights and privileges afforded others. The Council looks
to foster brotherhood and sisterhood in the pursuit to bring about social change through
the development of social programs that would create positive change for Black people
and society as a whole.
The Panhellenic Council is the governing body and policy-making organization of the
National Panhellenic Conference Sororities. The purpose of the Panhellenic Council
is to coordinate the efforts of the individual sororities in matters of philanthropy,
scholarship, leadership and sisterhood. We are home to five out of the 26 sororities
within the NPC:Alpha Phi,Delta Delta Delta,Delta Gamma,Gamma Phi Beta, andKappa Kappa Gamma.
