A Living Learning Community (LLC) intends to connect students through a shared topic for academic and personal development. Students in an LLC gain a built-in support system of mentoring, networking, and an overall enhanced sense of community. Being in an LLC can help students get a jump start in creating connections within their academic field. Research shows that students in LLCs form connections earlier, make friends more easily, perform better in classes, and graduate at higher rates than students who choose not to live in LLCs. Living Learning Communities offer unique opportunities for campus residents living in Shocker Hall.

How do I sign up to live in an LLC?

To apply for a Living Learning Community, you will select ‘yes’ when prompted in the housing application. You will later be placed in an LLC that aligns with the Learning Community you have chosen during enrollment. 

For your Living Learning Community application to be considered complete, you must agree to all program requirements of the LLC and pay a $30 annual membership fee. The membership fee covers LLC-related events and initiatives throughout the year.

Where are the Living Learning Communities located? 
All Living Learning Communities are located in Shocker Hall, providing a centralized and energetic residential experience. 
Can I join more than one Living Learning Community? 
No. Each LLC is designed to create a close-knit community by housing students with shared interests on the same floor. To maintain this immersive experience, students may only join one LLC. 
Can I participate in an LLC without living on the designated floor? 
No. Living in the designated LLC space is essential to the experience. These communities are built around shared living environments that foster collaboration, support, and connection. 
Is there a cost to join a Living Learning Community? 
Yes. There is a $30 annual membership fee, which supports LLC-specific events, programs, and initiatives throughout the academic year. 
How many Living Learning Communities are available? 

 There are currently eight LLCs.

How do I choose the right Living Learning Community for me? 
We will place you in the Living Learning Community based on the Learning Community you select during your enrollment questionnaire from OneStop. You may be assigned to your LLC starting as early as mid-February. Notification of your LLC will be sent via email. Once notified, you will need to accept or decline the offer to join the community before selecting your room in March. Why do I have a roommate whose is not in the LLC?
HRL does its best to fill the LLC floor with students who participate in the LLC. However, if there are rooms still available after LLC students select their space, we open the remaining room to general students for selection.
